Hey Chris.... there was a kid in town that pulled a dolly around with an older Blazer or Jimmy (S series) gathering up junk last summer and I saw some pretty big loads behind it. (Like a full size pick-up loaded with scrap)

If you're just pulling it along behind on a dolly you won't have much tongue weight to worry about. If you can get it moving without tearing the bumper or hitch off you have it made. Stopping quick might be a bit of a challenge though.

20-some odd years ago when I started driving tractor-trailers and was slightly concerned about having over 50,000 lbs following me, one of the older guys told me "just don't look in the mirrors and you'll be fine."

Thats gonna be hard to get goin, and harder to stop, but I suppose if your careful..

TT 50,000 sheesh, some of these coal buckets around here are draggin 150k or 170k in COAL behind them...add the truck and trailer, your pushin 200..

I think the most ive pulled is 127,000 in the wagon.. it was creakin and groanin and poppin.. suprised it didnt fold in half!!

im not worried about driving that much weight i have a class A cdl with everything but hazmat thanks to my states fine law that you have to be 21 to drive hazardous stuff a bit annoying but oh well. i was just curious about the capability of my truck its self well i guess i will just have to try it. i have pulled 2600 lbs with it and you know its there but its not that bad driving. that was on a single axle landscape trailer and the tong weight was around 800 to 1000 lbs these tow dollies are supposed to have like 300lb max tong weight. as far a Google goes it want very helpful and the manual for the truck is somewhat generic and has weights ranging from 3200 lbs to 6600 lbs guess ill just give it a shot its only like $40 for 24 hours with the trailer

Hi Chris,

I have a 2004 S10 Blazer and this is a direct quote out of the owners manual....

Two Wheel Drive, Two Door, Auto Trans, 3.42 Gears= 5700 lbs max weight of trailer and load

Same as above with manual trans = 4200 lbs

Four Wheel Drive. Two Door, Auto, 3.42= 5400lbs

Same as above with manual trans =3900 lbs

Four Wheel Drive, Four Door, Auto Trans 3.42's or 3.73's=5000 lbs

THE MANUAL ALSO SAYS THAT ANY COMBINED WEIGHT OF TRAILER AND LOAD THAT EXCEEDS 1000 LBS REQUIRES TRAILER BRAKES.

I would be very cautious towing a full size pickup on a dolly, you have a short wheel base vehicle with a Blazer and if you get any sway at all you will get in trouble QUICK. My father was towing a large camper behind a Dodge Ram Charger (short wheel base full size SUV) and he rolled it and crashed about 2 seconds after it started swaying.... he couldn't correct fast enough. It will be a strain to get all of that rolling and a bigger strain to get it all stopped. My Blazer has front disk and rear drum and when I tow my trailer with two wheel horses on it the combined weight is about 2100...... trust me the truck knows its there and stopping is a chore. BE CAREFUL AND GOOD LUCK!!!!

Tony

about 35 miles at $75 for a hook and $5 a mile thats $250 easy not in my price range now $40 for the dolly is but i think im gonna look in to renting a truck along with it or just suck it up and fix my truck in the snow depending on how much the u haul pickups go for

HOly Crap thats a pricey Tow!!!

Something like around here would be less than 100 bucks..

Sounds like what work pays for our towing service...we primarily use A&Z Towing. Now I know the owner, great guy with a couple of good kids, so this is the only way I know this...

When our office calls him is 250.00 when he starts the truck, its another 500.00 he gets just under 5.00 a mile for the towing, and any on site recovery is done on a per job basis... glad I dont have to pay that bill!!

Chris - good luck with gettin your truck towed!!

Chris do you have towing insurance with your auto insurance policy? I have it through State Farm for only a few bucks a year. Check with your insurance agent and see what it would be to add it to your policy and how soon afterward you can use it. Never hurts to check

 Chris if you do this ,( i know we have to do something we don't want to do sometimes) but if you do , have the emergency lights flashing and have someone following you with theirs going, i have had to do this with a small motor home behind a ford 150, with a tow hitch ,,,SCARY, going slow ,,,never over 35mph , slowed traffic quite a bit , but had to...be careful..

Too bad we're not closer, I'd lend you the F-250. Thinking of your safety Chris, I wouldn't tow a big pickup with the Blazer. It just seems to be a bit much.

hey guys thanks for the input but i was out by my good(ish) pick up today so i talked my boss into swinging by and giving me a hand a few minuets with the test light relieved a fuel pump wire that had rubbed on the frame and corroded out with all the salt the fine state uses (or maybe some of the salt that runs through my sander  ) any way my truck is up and running so i will be using that to bring my parts truck over to the shop i know it will do it just fine, that's how it got here in the first place! thanks again om and Karl i wouldn't accept that offer tho it is appreciated but it just wouldn't be right to bring a GMC to its death bed with a ford would kinda be like bring Henry ford to the grave yard in a caddy hurse you get the ides
