Rough Cut 25 #1 Posted August 11, 2017 My paint question is a bit different. It is probably a preference type question. Here goes. When re doing a tractor, is it ok to do a more "non traditional" paint color? One of the reasons to redo a tractor is to make it your own. I'm not talking about going and painting your horse Steiger green or anything. But im really considering red frame, wheels belt guard and then a white hood and grill. I'm working on 704. If anyone has pics... i love pics.
rjg854 11,617 #2 Posted August 11, 2017 It's your tractor, do what you want to do with it. Some owners like to keep them as original as possible, others don't worry so much about that. Make it your own, unless you're thinking of selling it somewhere down the road. Then that might affect the selling price.
DennisThornton 4,769 #3 Posted August 11, 2017 Just my preference and thought, if you radically alter the tractor then it's OK to radically alter the color. A restoration would include the proper color. My 2 cents.
953 nut 56,325 #4 Posted August 11, 2017 You own it and we are privileged to live in the land of the free! Do your thing, if others don't appreciate it and you are bothered by that then you can always paint it again. Here is one that was at this year's "Big Show".
AMC RULES 37,143 #5 Posted August 11, 2017 I remember the Squonk's old "Marvin" tractor... your description, kinda...sorta, sounds something like that.
Electro12WH 50 #6 Posted August 11, 2017 There was a movement by a certain political party to form a committee of tractor inspectors that would prohibit such behavior under the auspices of the (ATF( Alcohol, Tractors & Firearms) , but that was defeated at the last election.
WHX?? 49,575 #7 Posted August 11, 2017 Yes make it your own especially if you intend to keep it awhile. Paint is just for looks and can be easily changed. Mechanicals can be too but to a harder degree. 2 hours ago, 953 nut said: live in the land of the free! Only one thing to remember here good men & women have died for us so we can paint our tractors whatever color we wish! Yeah even this guy I'm afraid! ! We don't have to like it but we have to respect his right to do it! 9 hours ago, Rough Cut said: i love pics. PeacemakerJack 10,742 #8 Posted August 11, 2017 As was said above, if you are looking at resale I recommend keeping as close to original as possible. If you plan on keeping it, build it the way you want it and paint it to your tastes. At the end of the day, it's your machine and as long as you like it that's what's most important. I have seen some really odd looking modifications and paint jobs through the years. However, I've seen others that made me think, "why didn't they paint 'em like that from the factory?" BTW--- my recommendation is tha you become a supporter of the forum so you can post a lot of and start a thread in the restorations section so we can follow and enjoy your journey too!!!
