Rough Cut 25 #1 Posted August 8, 2017 My Amazon store card took a $450 hit today... New throttle and choke cables. New carb. New tri ribs for the front and 4 rear ag tires. So that has me curious of the dual wheel setup that folks are using. I have been thinking of getting another set of wheels and cutting the centers out altogether. Then using carriage bolts and make up some black iron sleeves and bolting them where the wheel weights would bolt. Has anyone done this? My father in law has an old wheel horse that he did duals on. No idea his setup. But he warned me that they wore the key ways out on his. He blames the duals. They used theirs for pushing snow and dirt. Pulling a disk. Mine is primarily going to be a parade/ show piece. Should I be concerned about the dual wheel setup? Thanks in advance.

953 nut 57,904 #3 Posted August 8, 2017 If you want to save a lot of aggravation you could go on the website of Wheelhorse Parts and More and buy a pair of adapters already made up or you can make them, here is the info. One thing that should be done with dual wheels is to keep the tire pressure in the outer tires very low, this will reduce the axle problems.
Achto 28,777 #4 Posted August 8, 2017 http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=131998 A warning with this drawing. The dimensions are off for some rims. Measure the distance between the mounting holes & adjust if nessasary.
"D"- Man 827 #5 Posted August 8, 2017 You may want to consider extended axles and a second pair of hubs. A fellow Redsquare made a pair for me and had them magnetic induction heat treated.
R. L. Addison 299 #6 Posted August 8, 2017 Would "D" axles be long enough for "B" or "C" duals?

He blames the duals Make sure the setscrews are kept tight along with low pressure in the outer tires as mentioned. Adding another setscrew to the hubs is easily done for further keyway protection.
CasualObserver 3,410 #8 Posted August 8, 2017 @AMC RULES Craig is right, I do have some of these very hard to find DMI mini-duals. I won't repeat the DMI story from the link above, but here are the pics I have available. When I got them..... And from when I had them mounted one time. I was thinking of getting them out for a show in a few weeks... if I do, I'll get some new (hopefully better) pictures.

FatJackDurham 318 #10 Posted August 8, 2017 What is the purpose of dualies other than looks? I can see on a long shaft with a second hub it might help spread weight out on soft ground, and for me it might keep it from rolling sideways, but would four bolts be enough to hold it if you didn't have the long axle? AMC RULES 37,146 #11 Posted August 8, 2017 Sure, it's enough...when you consider the bolts and the spacer that is built into them... takes up the space between the two, & slips into the rim you have mounted to the hub.
