Rollerman 290 #1 Posted January 20, 2008 This is the 701 I mentioned in another thread, went after it this morning. Looks to be pretty clean minus the wrong belt guard & it's missing the double row pullies for the starter ...but still has the right starter belt guard on it! It has a later style long frame 48" snow plow on it with the pin run through the slot hitch hole at the back.... The other is a GT1100 that came with a nice 42" rear discharge deck & several peices of what was once an 11HP B&S engine. I have a K301 here that will go into it & put it back in service. nylyon-(Admin) 7,264 #2 Posted January 20, 2008 Great haul. The 701 looks like it has cast weights on the back as well.
CasualObserver 3,408 #3 Posted January 20, 2008 Looks like today was a Great day for Horse Huntn'! Nice haul Stephen. :D
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #4 Posted January 20, 2008 :D Man!, you just scored two of the best looking (styled/colored) tractors to ever come out of Indiana! (In my opinion) Something about those WorkHorses just looks "wicked"! Good catch, Stephen ! :(
Rollerman 290 #5 Posted January 20, 2008 LOL...is that your favorite new catch word Terry..."wicked"? Thanks for the comps guys & I look forward to playing with the Work Horse swapping in the K301...just need to find a Wheel horse spec oil pan for it... Karl they are cast wheel weights...not sure what make though? Hard to see them under the cut up bicycle tubes he has holding the chains on with.
kj4kicks 151 #6 Posted January 20, 2008 Nice trailer load there Stephen! Congrats on the new toys !
combatmp29r 27 #7 Posted January 20, 2008 Very nice Stephen. Ok I gotta get the ramps built this week. I've made a deal for 2 more horses 71 lawn ranger and a 76 C-160. Both need work, but the price was very right. After seeing your new toys I want to go get them. Kinda cold though. A real horse collector wouldn't let the cold stop them would they :D
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #8 Posted January 20, 2008 Nice haul, Stephen. As for the plow installation on the 701, maybe the guy was like me, Wheel Horse illiterate and said, "Now how does this go, oh yeah, here how it should go." Call me crazy , but I agree with the smarter Terry, I kinda think those Work Horses are "wicked". :D
BPjunk 184 #9 Posted January 20, 2008 Steve, That 701 is in very nice shape, the dash does not look like it is broken!!!! You said the engine has only a single groove pulley set up, can you post the engine serial and model numbers? If this engine is a 1962 or newer it will have the internal compression release and not need the double pulley set up. I have a running 1961 K-161 off a 701 if your interested . Bill in Richmond, Va. combatmp29r 27 #13 Posted January 21, 2008 I got a portable set of craftsman ones Duanne. Just not impressed with them when you have to push or winch a tractor on. Thats what I get for taking the gate off before i built the ramps :D
MEBDRB 1 #14 Posted January 21, 2008 You guys in the middle of the country and back east make me sick.... Since getting my first WH I have been searching like a dog and have not found any more... I don't think many were sold around here, I am starting to think I got lucky getting the one I did.... :(
combatmp29r 27 #15 Posted January 21, 2008 Darren, i believe I remember reading that the most were sold here in the midwest, since thats where they were produced. Don't know the demographics of the rest of the country though. Wild Bill would probably be the one to answer that :D
Rollerman 290 #16 Posted January 21, 2008 Joel the trailer with the ramp gate is my father inlaw's...I hijack it everytime it's empty... I have a 6X12 tilt deck but it bouces all over when empty & you have to beat the pin out with a hammer to tilt it...& a tilt deck is a one shot deal. His ramp gate trailer has a rubber ride axle & brakes! Terry in MO...it works okay I supose...but seems like it be a lot of stress on the back of the trans...will pull it tommorrow. BP it's still sitting on the trailer...I got back to the house ran inside & got under a blanket I figure I'll get back out & unload them about June when it warms up & check the numbers then? Nah...I'll look tommorrow & may shoot you an email & the dash is in good shape! TT...seems a lot of people may have been watching Adam Sandler in "Mr Deeds" lately? Seems to use "wicked" a lot in the movie. :o
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #17 Posted January 21, 2008 I noticed that movie was on last night....... right after I got back from delivering greeting cards to a school nurse in Winchestertonfieldville, Iowa. :D
Rollerman 290 #18 Posted January 21, 2008 TT let me guess...you fell through the ice, got out, then left town in a red corvette? :D
Kelly 1,029 #19 Posted January 21, 2008 Nice score I really like the 701, You said you had one to go look at. Finding the round hoods is getting harder and harder for working mans money. Kelly
Rollerman 290 #20 Posted January 21, 2008 Even harder when your not a working man...say someone who has 90 days off during the winter while the asphalt plant is down for the season? Nah it's all good & would not want to work in the cold nor leave in the AM in the cold 5/6 days a week. Actually the 701 had been listed for over a year in a local classified as a 7HP Wheel Horse...no other info. When I called him he emailed the pic & called it a 702? I know...I know...should have been "wicked" honest with the seller & told him it was a very valuable tractor & offer to sell for him on ebay. I supose I won't be able to sleep at night now...more time for Red Square! :D
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #21 Posted January 21, 2008 TT let me guess...you fell through the ice, got out, then left town in a red corvette? HOW did you guess ?
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #22 Posted January 21, 2008 Darren, I did see some WH's on evilbay located in California (about as close to Washington as I've seen). There is a guy I see posting on YT Classified sections named Steve Johnson that sells a lot of garden tractors. I think he's in either Washington or Oregon. YT Classified pages TT, That could be me also. :D
MEBDRB 1 #23 Posted January 21, 2008 I will keep the search on while I rebuild the GT-14, if nothing happens, I will put the word out to you guys and see what is for sale that I want once I learn more, then I guess I would have to have some hauled, that's about all I could do if I really wanted something.... Kinda makes me wonder how mine got bought. I do know the history on it somewhat, it was bought by a large church and used to do the sidewalks, they are a corner lot.
Rollerman 290 #24 Posted January 21, 2008 Darren I'd say a previous owner brought it out that way & may have sold it to the church. It seems that Wheel Horse semis didn't like to go west? I have heard more Horses were sold in PA then any other state. Seems odd since they were built in my backyard here in IN.
chevelletown 37 #25 Posted January 21, 2008 That 701 is going to look great with the rest of the herd. I crossed my fingers all Sat afternoon hoping it would still be there for you to buy. I noticed a trend in some of the other purchases this week end. Go after one tractor bring back two, sound like a good formula for filling work shops!
