Aye! A hedgehog. Quite harmless. They eat slugs and the like. First one I've seen for a year or two here. A few squashed ones on the main roads though. :(

Here in the states, we have "groundhogs"...similar to your hedgehogs!

I hate slugs. When I lived down south the bigs ones would always somehow find their way under my bare feet as a kid. 

 

If they eat them I say start a all out program to raise the population of hedge hogs!

I work with a guy who is involved with Boy Scouts. He says he eats them all the time. part of wilderness survival. He always brings that crap up when we're having lunch for some reason! :rolleyes: :ranting:

The "internets" will tell ya they are Not related...

 

A Hedgehog, subfamily Erinacinae, is covered in short spines. It resembles an echidna or a little porcupine, though these animals are not related. A Groundhog is a totally different species, family Sciuridae, related to marmots and ground squirrels....

 

Both cute little things though.
