Gas Tank

Recommended Posts

I noticed that there appears to be a piece of metal or fine mesh screen that seems to be sticking up right where the fuel goes to the fuel line or shutoff valve. My tank has a shut off under the tank that will swivel 360.  I have a few questions; is there a way to safely get the valve out of the tank without messing it up, is that piece of metal normal?  I cannot take a picture of it just because the tank is black so there is no way to get the flash to work and if I try to use a flashlight you cannot get the camera in close enough ..???  on a side note where is a good place to find the wiring diagram for the regulator?  I know a bit out of the fuel range but seems to be more and more issues... thanks for any help   Pat

The shut-off valve looks like this and has a screen.

Sold many places and on eBay.

If removed I'ld suggest replacing valve and grommet.

Just type "Wheel Horse fuel valve" in eBay or on the web.

Prices have a wide spread.

On the front page scroll down to the classified. There they be. I've dealt with several of them and they are all first rate. :)

yeah.... me too!  I popped the valve out, all nice and clean, but you couldn't get a pin thru the outlet.

It was full of rust.  Take it apart and clean it.  :greetings-clappingyellow:

I have a question about the 69’ model. I took my tank out to work on carb easier. A couple weeks later as I put it back together & after cleaning everything; I replaced the white weatherstripping that was at bottom of tank and on the corners of the strap. Seems to be all that holds it in place. Because the strap around the tank will not go around the metal bracket on bottom and fit the tank. And even if it did the strap would only line up with the bracket mounting bolts which would be in the way. What did I miss? Didn’t pay close enough attention when I took it apart and can’t see in the parts diagram where the strap does go around the bracket. The weather stripping is tacky enough that the tank stays in place and it is a made to fit perfectly in position. Just seems that the metal strap is pointless.

Now that I have my 855 operational I am shifting gears back to my 1054. Troubleshooting my fuel delivery issues I have removed the gas tank (don't ask how-you won't want to know) It appears to be pretty nasty inside, what is the best approach to trying to save the tank or hunt down a replacement? I'm not going for original necessarily. This tractor has had plenty of modifications from the previous owner. So I'm open to being creative. Thoughts???

      Hi Folks,
I'm back with another question on my 518-H (with the 520 rear).  I'm loosing some gas. It seems to seep somewhere and I'm suspecting it the seal where the gas line comes out of the bottom of the tank. Is this a fixable thing or do I need to get a new gas tank? It's real slow. I can't find a drip, but I can smell gas and when I go to add gas it seems like it's been leaking. thanks, d
