T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,531 #1 Posted June 13, 2017 I pull the panels off my 953 to see what is up with the hydraulic lift. First the belt is on, and it's turning the pulley, but the belt is pretty worn. Second, as seen in the video below, the lever doesn't do anything. I guess I have to tear into it to see what the problem really is. 1
"D"- Man 827 #2 Posted June 14, 2017 This could be one of two things, too low or no fluid, or the neutral return spring is broken..
953 nut 56,633 #3 Posted June 14, 2017 First thing to do is check the fluid, I use ATF and some use hydraulic fluid. Pull the plug on the side toward the seat and fill it. Lowell sells kits for the pump and ram. Several good threads on here about rebuilding them, they are just like a H-2 unit.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,531 #4 Posted June 14, 2017 I hope it just needs fluid, but from the way the lever is acting, there is absolutely no resistance, so it feels like something's broke inside. I have the other 953 I could steal the pump off of until this one gets sorted out, but wouldn't like to do that yet.

T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,531 #6 Posted June 14, 2017 Looks like I have to open the pump up. The spring is item 18 in the image below, I assume? It looks like Lowell sells them for $25 if this one is broken: https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/hydraulics.html#!/Wheel-Horse-Hy-2-Hy-3-spring-new-style/p/84960187/category=23548048
slammer302 2,156 #7 Posted June 14, 2017 looks pretty straight forward.
wheelhorseman 3,211 #8 Posted June 14, 2017 (edited) This is what happens on the inside of the pump with a good spring. The middle picture is the netrual position.(screenshots of a video) Edited June 14, 2017 by wheelhorseman 4

Remove the nut #14, and the reservoir will come off.

Place the cast steel pump in a vise with the reservoir facing upward. Remove the nut on the end of the center shaft and your reservoir should pull off, may hav.e to unscrew it a bit. Lowell @wheelhorseman has all the parts you'll need
