Sickle bar operation

Recommended Posts

I have a side mount sickle bar on a 1277 tractor.  When I first used it I fit a hidden steel post that stopped the thing dead.  Not long after the shaft broke in the wobble box. I have since had that welded and also bought a second unit. So I now have two sickle bars.  My question is this.  When I get this back into operation is there a need to control the speed of the cutting bar?  if so, how is this accomplished as the drive is off the engine.  I am hoping that speed was not a part of the original failure.  Any suggestion?

Well hitting a object that stopped it dead did not do it any good, could have broke a number of things. As far as the speed you have to reduce RPM, you must find a RPM that is high enough to keep your motor cool and lube splashing around and yet slower than the normally  govern 3600. Those sickles were never suppose to run at that kind of RPM. 3600 is just to high for the wobble box

I was perusing the eBay WH listings this morning and ran across a WH sickle bar for sale by a seller in Streator, IL.
The item looks to be in pretty rough, unserviceable current condition.
I know that aren't tens of thousands of the sickle mowers out there, especially operating and serviceable units.
I also have a pretty rough idea of what the generally go for, even when functioning.
But IMO, the seller's asking price is way more than starry eyed and blissfully wishful, its down right nuts and outrageous, for what it is.
      Priced @ $750.
I am not posting the link, but it can easily be located on eBay.
      Opinions anyone?

This is my original Haban 414 Sickle bar mower Operation and Service Manual with repair parts list. I removed it from my GT 14.

Can someone please post up some good clean shots of a full and correctly mounted CBR-32 with belts, engagement pedal and all?  I've spent an hour looking though old posts, and can't find a good shot of a complete one installed.

Posted here and/or in the gallery  be appreciated.

      Thanks!
