Suburban or Rj

12 hp Kohler

I saw this wheel horse for sale and I am trying to figure out if it is a suburban or Rj,parts on it look like a suburban and other parts look like an Rj 58 or 59, what are your opinions i would really like to know? I know the front axle is from a suburban but not sure about other parts.

1961 Suburban 401 or a 400 with the wrong hood.

Def a sub. with 60 foot pads.

Steering column is in the wrong place.

Some one ruined it and moved the hood stand up and chopped up the hood, and wrong rear wheels. It's a suburban, and I'd only give 150 for it only because it's got a 4hp kohler 90 or 91 on it

Looks like they moved the engine forward which forced them to move the hood stand which forced them to butcher the steering rod which caused them to butcher the hood.....

Makes you wonder why people do what they do?

Depending how bad they butchered the steering, it could be fixed....with a replacement hood.

I'd agree on your price.  Needs to much fixin' to pay much more.

Yes sir, and actually I'd probably pass on it anyway at that price. Lol. To big a project. I'd do a C note probably to have the engine as a back up for something else I come across needing a engine.

Even looks like the gas tank is gone too

The original one anyway

Front tires and rims are in good shape, few other good parts and pieces but as proud as sellers are of good hoods for suburbans it wouldn't be a good restoration candidate.   :twocents-02cents:

Definitely not a 59 and not a RJ.

It's a 60 or 61.

My bet is on a 1961 401 based on the cut up hood and Kohler, but it also has 60 foot rests and 60 seat which could easily be bolted on.

Probably has about $300 in parts on it if it was to be parted out, assuming it runs good.

If you could find a cheap hood in nice shape (IF), it could be put back together.

Could be a good project, time permitting, but would probably cost more than it would be worth.

If you want a complete original, I'd keep looking.

If you want a project and not concerned with the cost then it has possibilities.

my $.02.

Heck, I've got a complete one with more invested than it's worth!

No kidding. The one I saw recently you might find a whole project tractor and get the hood for free...

Husband wants some advice… lol.  So we did an engine swap today on two suburbans because we could not get the one engine to spark all the time to get it running!  The engine ran last year before parking for the winter sleep…. Points were changed out for new the engine was cleaned to make good contact has new spark plug new coil condenser we even switched out the fly wheel today thinking maybe the magnet was weak…. Advice???   It would where are you out yanking on the recoil five or so times and maybe only get the points to fire twice if you’re lucky..  checked the gap and pull again… same thing over and over!  Thanks in advance!
