Can I do it? - Rear plow for garden

Recommended Posts

BigRed84

Sorry in advance if this turns out to be one of those eye rolling questions.  I have a 314-H and I'm 99.9% sure there is no lift for rear attachments.  I would like to make a garden in part of my yard so I need to rip up the sod and have been watching videos showing the rear plow.  Is the hydraulic arm used for my deck/snow blower the same arm that ends up being used to lift the rear attachments or was this an option we didn't get when purchasing the tractor?  If it is in fact a separate arm for the rear, is this something that can be added.....and if not, can I get away with just dragging a plow and unhitching it when the garden area is completed so I don't have to drag it back to the shed?  Thanks for any input/advice.

It uses the same cylinder.  You will need the  cable that goes to the rear  (if you do not have one) and a rock shaft under the seat between the gas tank supports.  You will also need a clevis hitch shown above.  You cannot just drag the plow as the hitch helps control the depth it will go

You will also likely need chains or AG tires and weights, wheel and maybe front.

These parts plus the plow itself are not that cheap.

Not too discourage you but you also have to consider your soil.

I have clay and rocks...My 40 hp 5000lbs Case DC3 has to work with a 2 bottom plow.

If you get it plowed you have to disc it to get a seed bed.

You might want to consider a roto tiller instead.  It will be a lot of work the first year breaking the sod but in subsequent years it will prep the garden in one step and be easier.

you can, if you just hook it up to the hitch thats with the tractor, the heel of the plow should control the depth, if not your plow isnt set up right

the above is not advised tho
