New "shoes" for a horse

Recommended Posts

WHX??

Don't know how I missed this Billy... I did have mine out in about 4 " of slush & some mud... no blower or weight...  just to see if I could get her stuck. but nope couldn't do it. walked right through it so happy with them so far. See what happens with a plow behind her and some weights in a furrow. That will be the test!

Better them replaceable paddles than the steel I guess!

I should have gotten a pic, but with the 25" vampires, it wouldn't stop. The front would pick up staying on top of the snow. Just got some 10" wide rims, gonna mount em up tomorrow, and try em out on the 8-speed with the plow. Still wanna get the 24s, but spent enough money lately.

Ive seen those and definitely look aggressive. I had pitbull growlers on my old one, and they were the best all around tire I've ever owned hands down. Snow, mud, dirt, hard pack, any terrain they did excellent. They would throw mud 20' at least into the air. Course having almost a 100 horses helps lol....Only downfall of ATV tires is IIRC, nobody makes a 23-ish" tall tire that is wide. I  got mine pretty cheap, and so far I like them. Hoping on a wider wheel it will bring the height down....

Jeff—now that you’ve been running those OTR’s for about a year, what do you think of them?  They are a great looking tire and I know you seemed happy with them in the winter.  What are you thinking of them for the summer projects that they were used for?

They are on my dedicated snow blower tractor, so no summer activities on this one, but just driving it around with the big deuce hanging off the front it still goes fine up these steep slopes here at our place, I personally haven't had a set of Carlisle Ags but compared to what I replaced and the new ones I put on the other 520 I'm positive they will work well in a furrow pulling a 10" Brinly.

Looks like they are going to get a good try out tomorrow Jeff!  Good luck.  I’m just kind of jealous of that cab.  I brought my GT 14 home tonight with front blade, but I’ll just have to wrap up good!☃️☃️☃️☃️

I don't mind "plowing" without a cab but blowing almost requires a cab when the wind is swirling around.

Today that 9" of powdery snow was quite slick but with these OTRs just never really lost their grip without chains pushing the big deuce around, and as far as steering not necessarily any better than the turfs I had on it last year but they definitely look cool, now the 520 with plow and Nanco AGs just didn't have the same grip I should have had chains on it but I have another pair of 23x10.50s OTRs ready to mount up on it as soon as I get a chance and we'll see how it does then.

Got the Nanco AGs (they will be going on the 315-8 in WV) swapped out for a new pair of the OTRs on "Good Friday 520" today along with getting them filled with methanol (I got charged for 15 gallons so 7+ ea tire) and bolted both sets of iron weights back on as well so mother nature bring on some more snow so I can tell you all the differences.

Variety is the spice of life, and truth be told without 4wd the front AGs are really just a show piece, I believe they will do better in a furrow than steering a 350# 2stage, those ribs look good on there.

Truth be told I am going to look for some R-4 fronts in 8" for this build I got going on. Just to make it look like a 4WD! :) Already got the rears.

As long as they hold air with tubes they stay on duty around here...

When I was a kid was rough on my bicycles leaving long skid marks on the pavement that wore through the tire blowing  the inner tube to repair the hole I would cut a section from another badly worn tire to insert as a boot to cover the hole from the inside. The inflated tube held the boot in place..

Today I got around to changeing out the rear tires on the 315-8 I bought last summer...it originally came with Carlisle "chevron pattern" turfs size 23x9.50-12, I kept the Nanco AGs (23x10.50-12) from the 95 520 I just swapped in December I'll get them fluid filled too before I return them to duty. They do look more at home on these 7" wide wheels vs the 8.5" 520 wheels (last pic).

:text-goodpost:you know me Jeff...always a sucker for AG tires.  Those look great on there.  It is so interesting to me how the different rim width really changes the way that an AG tire looks.  Just because a tire fits...doesn’t mean that it looks right.  Nice use of those Nancos

Yep on the 520 wheels the Nancos were sidewall "bulgy" (for lack of a better word) and on the narrow rims sidewalls flat even with tread. Sometimes cheaper isn't better and just because it says "23x10.50-12" doesn't really mean it's that size...i do believe the Hi-Run AGs from TSC are closer to stated width than these NANCO (Deestones) brand.

Got them "fluid-filled" today (methanol) and some 65# mushroom iron weights laid in the rims till they make it back to the 315-8 in WV Saturday.

      Very Solid tractor!

Newer Agro Tires on Rear and Solid Front Turf Tires. Wheel Weights on rear. Fully Swapped Forward Swept axle off of 520h. I ran my 60" Deck on this tractor for over a year with no issues.
Deck it solid top to bottom with no rot and newer blades. Belt and Pulley are good to go!
She's just a little dusty and needs a cleaning. Can get a nice Seat a Tractor Supply.

Now that we are finding more uses for the 1990 520H with a KwikWay loader I am experiencing some power loss in the hydro after about a half hour to 45 minutes??????
      Ideas?

Selling my trusty WH520H.  ~880 hours (currently used for moving snow when needed so hours may rise) very solid machine, strong and hardworking.  20HP Onan, hydro transmission and hydraulic lift.  Has Matt's foot-pedal conversion for forward/reverse.  Included in the sale is a tall-chute snow blower and 60" mowing deck.  The blower is in excellent condition and is on the tractor currently.  The mowing deck has been a workhorse over the years.  No holes but could use some TLC, probably needs new spindles at some point and could use a couple spots touched up with welder also does NOT have any pulley covers/protectors (see photo).  Tractor has been an incredible tool, very solid and dependable and I'm certainly going to miss her when she's gone.

Recent maintenance: replaced the plugs this summer, fluids as needed (hydro has about 100 hours on fluid/filter; oil was done in the spring and has about 25 hours on it).  Battery is about 3 years old as are the tires, Terra Trac tires on the rear and turfs on the front.  The seat (with arm rests) isn't in great shape.  I've got a cover for the seat, never used.  It's never really bothered me but new seat cover is included in sale as are 4 hub caps, chains for the rear tires, and some misc spare parts (see photos).

I've owed this machine about 8 year and put ~350 hours on her.  She's not a show piece but could be restored.  Sheet metal is generally in shape, no rust however the hood does have a couple dings in it.

I'm only selling because I'm trying to help my son get a small lawn care business started and looking to move to a zero-turn.  The 60" deck is too large for our trailer, the mowing deck lacks pulley safety shields, and we'd like something that mows faster.  My only complaint with this machine is the top-speed (which isn't great when comparing to today's machines) otherwise she's a beast.  They don't make them like this anymore.
