T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #1 Posted April 2, 2017 I messed around with the '79 C-161 Twin Friday, mowing the back lot, when the blades stopped turning. I drove it back into the garage and yesterday I had time to take a look at it. Hmm, something appears just quite not right here. Can you see, other than the fact the mule drive is just hanging on one side? It shouldn't surprise me none, since other "improvements" that the previous owner made has to be corrected. T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #4 Posted April 2, 2017 Yep, absolutely. Both Bob and Garry nailed it. Unfortunately the PO didn't "nailed it" when he reinstalled it. Definitely won't stay latched in that position. No wonder the blades stopped turning when the mule drive won't stay in place. It's amazing how some owners put things back together after taking things apart.
KC9KAS 4,741 #5 Posted April 2, 2017 That is another reason to have multiple tractors......Go look at another one to see how things go back together!
rmaynard 15,427 #6 Posted April 2, 2017 That's something that when you take it apart you say to yourself, "I'll remember how is goes back", but you don't. For me it's always a lot of pictures to refresh my memory.
Texas Todd 1,025 #7 Posted April 2, 2017 I bet I take over 100 pictures before dismantling a tractor. But it never fails there is always one picture that I should have taken that I didn't. Having another tractor to look at, as well as the brain trust here, always saves the day!
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #8 Posted April 3, 2017 Fixed it yesterday. It's now installed properly. Now to reroute the fuel line and relocate the fuel shut off the PO installed.
tunahead72 2,403 #9 Posted April 3, 2017 (edited) Since I'm not very good about taking photos, or remembering things, I tend to rely on parts manuals when I'm not sure about how things are supposed to go back together. The official Wheel Horse printed manuals, not the online IPL's. The online diagrams can be helpful in a pinch, I just find the printed versions to be more comprehensive and easier to navigate when I'm stuck. I'm glad you got it back together, Terry. You know as well as anybody how amazing this place can be. Edited April 3, 2017 by tunahead72
dcrage 627 #10 Posted April 3, 2017 And as one who is NOT particularly mechanical I must say that the WH 'attachatic system' is not intuitive. It is elegant and easy to use but I would never be able to explain how it works without one on hand. You
