Deck lift connection - Chain or Direct?

Now that I am going to be getting the original style deck for my GT-14, I wanted to ask about the lift connection. ON the 416-8 I bought, it was connected with a chain that pulled straight up. I notice that the GT-14 has a little metal tongue that sticks down under the tractor that the dozer blade bolted to to lift it.

 

What is the correct connection type for these tractors. Should the mower decks be connected directly with metal pieces or is the chain the correct way to do it?

I believe the chain is the correct type, that is what is on my 1979 C101 and my 1989 414-8

                                IMO, the decks should never be connected by a solid lift link.  They need to float on the rollers with the uneven terrain.

Is the hydraulic float position not good enough?

 

I see there was a direct connection for the GT-14 mower deck, but I have also see other folks posting that a chain is better, easier.

I am not familiar with the HFP and do not know how it operates, but I would be surprised if a hydraulic system could react quickly enough to transfer fluid fast enough to keep a deck following a uneven contour.

Hopefully someone with an understanding of the HFP can explain it's capabilities.

The GT14 uses a trunion rod  with a sliding post.

The float position merely allows the implement to lift or lower lower itself by gravity. Works great for mower decks where the cutting height is set by the deck wheel adjustment. 

Also, advantageous when using a dozer blade.
