Be gentle the fork can be bent if you get over zealous.

Make sure the tranny is in neutral depress the clutch.  then try to shift  the lever.  If it moves part way but not all the way let the clutch out for a second then depress and try again.  (You may also try rocking the tractor back an forth a bit) These are straight cut gears with no synchros so you have to "mix" them up a bit sometimes

My 1 ton GMC has an sm465 4spd. Like the tractor granny low and reverse are straight cut, no synchro. Makes them very strong but tough to engage some times. On the truck and tractor I use similar methods, I'll shift into a higher gear then back into the desired gear or let the clutch out just a bit and shift. Or like was said above rock the tractor. One of those methods always works

The fork may already bent or broken. The only time it should be used is when the tractor is stopped. Any other time can bend or break the fork.

About a decade ago, I bought a conversion kit here to remove the column drive lever and convert to a foot pedal for a 520h.
I would like to convert a second tractor, and I need to replace one of the linkage bars on the first one that has cracked, but I can't find the vendor any more.
Does anyone remember who made this awesome mod, and where I can find them?

I purchased my 314-8 new in February of 1996.  It's been a great tractor.  But a few years ago I had landscaping done and contracted for lawn service.  So the tractor has been sitting in the garage for a few years.  Bought a new battery.  It cranks hard, but won't fire.  Probably needs the fuel lines or carburetor cleaned.  It also needs the clutch shock replaced.  I have the new shock and belt.  Just haven't gotten around to replacing them.  Deck is in excellent shape with new spindles before I parked it.  Comes with the nice pull behind spreader that has only been used twice.

      Thanks for you consideration.

Not sure on specific model. This 8 spd came attached to a plow I bought. It had some water in it for a couple weeks according to the prior owner. I drained it, sloshed some diesel in it, drained that, then filled with fresh oil. Spinning the input shaft by hand, I can see the axels turn. Hasn't leaked any oil. I'm not really interested in shipping, so I'd prefer local sales.

Hi! The shafts of my fathers old 314-8, deck number 73449 have worn to the point the blades don’t stay secured. I’ve struck out tonight trying to find a part number. If anyone can assist, I would greatly appreciate it.

      thank you,

Hey guys,I have a dilemma I need some help with. I have a 1969 GT 14 that I replaced the transmission and pump on. For about 2 weeks afterward everything worked great, but while mowing at a pretty good pace I noticed a shudder and the tractor slowed a little but not bad. The more I rode it the slower it got until it barely moves. What stumps me is the hydraulics are still very strong,as in I can back the 3 point under the bumper of my truck and if you lift the arms all the way up the front wheels of the tractor will clear the ground. Have checked the tow valve and checked the internal filter, but no luck. I have also checked and replaced the forward and reverse bypass springs and the lever is moving the cam to full travel, forward and reverse. Any help would be appreciated.
