GT-14 Parts Needed - 8362, dashboard, levers, etc

Recommended Posts

Hi all, it's been a few months. Last I was here, I had just cleaned my carb and was starting on electrical. Then I had a family cancer thing, and I was busy for a few months.

Anyway, I already have forgotten the right way to search for stuff and can't find the things I had found before. So, if anyone has the knowledge at their finger tips, could you help me find the following:

1) New ignition switch part # 8362, seems to be rare, goes for $60+ on Ebay. Anyone have one to sell or can point me to a replacement part #?

2) "Dashboard" - I had mentioned I had shrinkage on my switch panel, and wanted a replacement. Was there someone on this forum that has replacement panels for the GT-14? I'd want both the console panel, and the one for the hydraulic levers.

3) Levers - Some one "bubba'd" the lift lever  and it doesn't move through the proper range, can't hit the float position. Any idea where I can get the proper lift lever including knobs, and maybe the drive lever knobs? Replacement ideas?

4) PTO Clutch - Not sure I need this or need a new switch. How do I test the PTO clutch? I would think you could just connect the lead wire to a voltage source and listen for a click, but I wasn't sure if it was dangerous to do, might damage the clutch, if I just connected it to the positive battery terminal.

Thanks for the info if you provide it. I had a great time here before and am glad to be back. I decided it's too hard to get an original mower deck for the GT-14, since it doesn't have the fast-hitch needed, so in the mean time, I'm going to buy a 416-8 with a mower deck on it to take care of the lawn this summer, and to give me time to finish going through the systems on the GT-14. Maybe I'll use the 416-8 as a model to add the Attach-A-Matic hitches and mule drive to the GT-14 so I can get more common attachments.

The electric PTO ground one wire and hook the other to the battery positive should hear  loud snap and see the plate move a bit.

I don't have a GT14.  Would seem to me that if you have a starter solenoid any 5 terminal mag switch could be made to work. may have to change wire ends.  They are cheap at Lowes Home depot.

FatJack, the dash and shifter panels are available from Glen Petit a vendor on this site.

Send me a PM. I have a deck and maybe an ignition switch I would let go.

As for the PTO,  I can probably hook you up with that too if needed.

Thanks for the suggestion to use a bearing splitter to take the steering wheel off, whoever that was. Like Butter.

Check out my weird hydraulic lifter lever. What is the real one supposed to look like and where can I get/make one?

Strange, that seems to be the correct part, at least for a 1971 GT-14. I wonder why it does work right, or why it doesn't go down far enough for the float detent... must investigate....

The picture in the owners manual shows it with a round knob on it.....

If I remember correctly,  only the '69 had the ball on the lever. Also, your spool valve may have been replaced at one time with one that doesn't have the float funtion...like mine. I have the correct one on the shelf if you're interested.

I think this is the correct one. It looks like the diagrams in all respects, and when I removed the center console panel, the shifter goes into float just fine. It's just that when the panel is on it doesn't go far enough, like the lever is too loose, or bent or something.

I'll figure it out. It probably just needs to be loved into place.....

Lever is correct.  May need to adjust float detent tension which is done with the nut near the bottom of the valve.

Thanks! I'll check that out!

Okay, I just did the test on the PTO clutch and it works. So, once I get the Ignition switch from Paul, I should be ready to rock with the GT-14. The only other defect is the parking brake, and I'll hold off fixing that until I am ready to paint the tin.
