pfrederi 18,071 #2 Posted March 22, 2017 If it starts buy it!!!!! That is a deal. if it doesn't start then does the engine turn over?? Does the tranny shift into gears?? If yes then still buy it. Frozen engine offer $75...still a good deal.
12 hp Kohler 1,014 #3 Posted March 22, 2017 Ok thanks, the one tire has a leek but the giy said he would put a new one on for me, it is supposed to run but I will find out if that is true tomorrow
12 hp Kohler 1,014 #4 Posted March 22, 2017 Another question, what is the value on an 854 running and driving in decent condition

12 hp Kohler 1,014 #8 Posted March 22, 2017 Oh, when I first saw the $100 I thought it was an pretty good deal but just wasn't sure
WheelHorse79 271 #9 Posted March 23, 2017 (edited) I paid $350 for the one in my avatar 4 years ago. It was running and mostly original. It had the wrong mower deck on it, front tires were shot, steering gear was shot, had the wrong seat pan and someone had worked on the transmission and ripped the tank stand around the shifter hole. However, the engine ran great and the trans was solid. I thought it was a good deal then. I wouldn't take a $1000 for it now (restored) because of the sentimental value involved. WheelHorse79 271 #12 Posted March 23, 2017 Here is a picture I took when the resto was almost done. I have since installed the proper seat pan and a genuine RM324 mover deck. I enjoyed every minute of the restore. My Dad bought this same tractor used in 1966, and it was the tractor I grew up on. Thus, the sentimental value. 8

12 hp Kohler 1,014 #18 Posted March 24, 2017 I got the wheel horse for $100, not sure the model I thought it was an 854 but now I'm not so sure. It's in pretty good condition just doesn't have the original engine but still a great buy.
Retired Wrencher 5,546 #19 Posted March 24, 2017 Buy the picks it looks like a tecky engine. should be a Kholer. If it is a 854.
Racinbob 11,376 #20 Posted March 24, 2017 You did good. It's not an 854 based on the steering wheel, dash and starter switch. The motor is a transplant. I'd say a 1963. Be careful about driving it without a belt cover. Aside from the obvious dangers you will grind the gears.
