Slow squeak and no speed

Recommended Posts

k9searchandrescue

My wife picked up a WH rider yesterday.  I'm not sure of the model but it has standard H pattern 1-3 & R and separate high/low range and I believe a 36" deck.  When it's moving, there is a slow rhythmic squeak from around the left rear wheel or deck. 2 High will barely move the tractor on flat ground and stops on a small incline. 3 high will not even move the tractor. Any help is appreciated.

Check the axle and hub...Sounds like the woodruff key is broke and the axle is spinning inside the hub.

If so, the wheel may fall off, so be careful checking this out!

Or the pulley on the transmission is slipping because it's key has sheared off.

Another thing to check is if this tractor has a   " clutch damper" .  As belts get old and stretch they can stretch past the damper cylinders travel and not fully engage . I removed mine .

"a SLOW  rhythmic squeak"     Relative to the pulley, the axle turns slower than the input pulley, so  I'll pick a sheared  right axle/hub key.

And Bob has dibs on the pulley key.

Yes it does, might be a few other things to check but those are the first things you'll want to do. Might be helpful if we knew what model we are talking about.

I'm not sure of the model

Post a couple of pictures and we can fix you up with some more information. Some models have an ID sticker under the seat, others will have a metal plate riveted to the steering tower, may be a decal too.
