First  I. Ran the fluid  empty while plowing put 2 qtr auto trans  fluid now it only moves forward  and reverse  for about a total of  3 ft

what trsans is in it? is it a hydro if its a hydro you need to jack it up and purge it because air got in the system. should show procedure in manual.

I assume there was ATF in there previously...That would most likely make this  a Sundstrand.   with a hydro lift it needs 5 qts

I don't  have a manual on it and yes it is hydro

You could get more help if you told us what model tractor you were dealing with,  Not all hydros need priming

First off most D series used 10w-30 oil for the transmission  are you sure ATF was what was in it??? ATF and motor oil do not mix well.

Not sure what was in it I was told by a friend  he thought  tag the  pump works feels like diff locks up after moving  forward  and reverse  for about 3 feet. Did the same thing  before  adding fluid I am very new to the  Wheel Horse  but do have some mechanical  ability  thanks

Release the tow valve and try pushing her a good distance.  Does it still lock up?  D series had issues with the bolts that hold the differential together failing then getting jammed between the differential bull gear and the case..  If it locks up do not use excessive force you can crack the transaxle case.  If it did lock up while pushing you will probably hae to remove the transaxle and split the case..

 

You should download the sundstrand manual.
