42" Mower Deck Swap Question

Recommended Posts

RJ Hamner

I have a 79 C121 that I finished this last fall that did not come with a mower deck.  It lists a 95-42MS01 as the mower deck that should have come with it

I bought a 74 C120 for parts because I wanted the engine to rebuild for a spare.  It came with a 5-1010 42" mower deck and the guy threw in another 5-1010 (so now I have 2)

My question is how easy/hard of a swap will I get myself into trying to put a 74 5-1010 in the 79 C121??

The deck will fit just fine. Not sure about the belt, but it may work also.

Everything should be the same.

One thing to keep in mind is the blades with the 5/8" x 3/4" double-D hole are no longer available.

With luck perhaps the spindle assemblies have been upgraded to the 3/4" hole.

Garry---Just found this.  They list the center hole as 3/4x5/8. Hard to see for sure if it is a DD, but looks promising.    Personally, I like the old spindles because they are pretty easy to remove to work on the deck. I have a few weird decks that I have collected because it is cheaper sometimes to collect decks than buy some of the more expensive pulleys.http://www.mfgsupply.com/mower/mowerblades/mowerbladestoro/15-1108-wheel-horse-6693.html

Guys, I have said this before, but this product rocks and will stand up to abrasion and corrosion quite well use it on underside of deck and the black color is not for use in direct sunlight..http://www.agriguardcoatings.com/home.html

This stuff sounds exactly like the Bill Hirsch product called "Miracle Paint".  The wife and I have used this stuff on several of our projects with really good results. Miracle Paint comes in Gloss Black, White, Silver and Clear.

But...there is Always a but.  Just a word of caution - if you use this product follow the directions exactly.  This can do some nasty stuff to your body.  Be sure you really want to use it because its H3!! to get of both you and what ever you painted:twocents-02cents:
