19richie66 17,508 #1 Posted February 26, 2017 So we went to the Florida Flywheeler's show on the last day and I had planned on looking for a tiller to go behind my 418-A to use around the yard. Didn't really have any hope on finding one and really had NO plans on bringing back a tractor as I hadn't taken a trailer. Two rows in and I saw this homely looking thing sitting in front of a vendor's motorhome. Asked about it and the vendor's wife said " he bought it to use to build his small scale JD tractors". So I asked about some parts since he was going to strip it anyways and he said all he really wanted was the 3 point lift upper arm and hyd. cylinder. Said he would sell the rest. Started it up and it ran and moved. Found the nearest atm and gave him a deposit. While he removed his parts we walked around looking at the other stuff till noon and came back to get it. Disengaged the hydro and out to the truck we went. Loaded it up on a ramp they had and to the house we go. I never thought I would ever find a gt14 much less here in Florida. Plans are for a restore when I get my stuff together. Just glad I got it and saved it from what was going to be done to it. It already looked bad enough in it's current paint. Not sure of the year but I think it is a 1972. Tag is painted over but barely readable. I see a " 1 ? 532 7 " up top and then just barely with my eyes see below that "853". I will take it off and see if I can get a better idea from the backside of it. Overall it is all there and in good shape. Still has all the original tires on it yet they are trash. So my bucket list tractor begins.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,046 #2 Posted February 26, 2017 Should be a model 1-0502 since the 2 and 7 are readable. The 7 on the end is not used but if you subtract 5 from that 6th digit you get the model year. 7-5=2=1972 Garry

953 nut 55,298 #4 Posted February 26, 2017 (edited) VERY COLORFUL! Welcome to the GT-14 Club; of course @Aldon is the presiding officer. I bought my first at the Florida Flywheeler Show about twenty years ago. It appears that yours had the independent 3 point hitch on it, so that is all the PO took off? Glad you managed to find another bucket list item, how many empty buckets do you have left? Edited February 26, 2017 by 953 nut Fat finger 6
19richie66 17,508 #5 Posted February 26, 2017 For some reason I have wanted a gt14 since my dad got me started. Just something about it. This one is very colorful indeed. Someone must have turned thier kid loose with a paint can assortment. Yes all he took was the upper pivot and hydraulic cylinder. I don't think he wanted to tote this thing all the way back up north. I helped him out
glenn27 71 #6 Posted February 26, 2017 (edited) Ah--The Florida-Flywheelers show--went two years ago--spent all day there and didn't see everything. I think I saw only one or two W/H's at all. BTW--I have had/have now still two--a1970 and a parts roller chassis. Sold a nice 69 two years ago, because I didn't have room to store it at the time. As others have said--The GT's are a breed apart. Totally different--and seems like each year is a little different than the one before. Good luck w/ yours! glenn Edited February 26, 2017 by glenn27

Aldon 4,826 #8 Posted February 26, 2017 (edited) Nice tractor. Residing officer of GT14's. Maybe For the southern portion Corinth NY. Don't forget @oldredrider, @Shynon, @rgrottk, @swisstrac, @Brrly1, @ztnoo, @DTOM, @fast88pu, @scotty, @BigRedGrizzly, @GT14 etc. Just too many other to list off. Our friends across the pond posted some of the most helpful threads which I located along my path. See @meadowfield and @Stigian posts. thats just a quick list off top of my head. I'm sure I have neglected listing or noting someone. Offense is not intended. Otherwise I just happen to be the most chatty and am tinkering with them a lot lately. I really like what your starting with. Those rear fenders look less abused than I often see and the original type knobs all seem to be there. Definitely a strong candidate for refresh or total restore. There is a fella forum member who has not yet become a site vendor on the square to my knowledge that is selling reproduction 3 point assembly parts on the auction site should you decide to go that route. He is selling everything but the cylinder and control valve. Glad to to see another GT14 owner join the fold. Edited February 26, 2017 by Aldon

Texas Todd 1,025 #11 Posted February 26, 2017 From here forward, that tractor should be referred to as "Rainbow"

19richie66 17,508 #18 Posted March 7, 2017 I took skittles out in the backyard today and drove it around. I couldn't get the throttle cable to stay out but I put it up against a tree and theottled it up and moved the direction lever to forward and the back tires started digging so much I almost got stuck. Backed right out. Guess the hydro is ok. It will get serviced soon. Need some belt tensioner bracket pivot bushings next. That tensioner lever is a bear to engage.

T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #20 Posted March 10, 2017 GT-14 owners need a logo for their signatures. And one for Richie. 7

Right click the image and "save image as" to your PC Click on your screen name--(upper right) Then click "settings" In the left column you will see "signature" click that Drag & drop the saved image. And there you can add other stuff to your signature. Might be an easier quicker way but that will work
