How far in to push axle the bearing?

Recommended Posts

Hello again,

We've cleaned our transmission up nicely and are ready to replace the two axle bearings. We removed the damaged ones a couple weeks ago and have the new ones ready to put in.

A have a question: how far in should I push the axle bearing? There is nothing to push it up against so it is not obvious how far in to the housing to push it.

The tractor is a C-81 with a transmission model 103916.

Thanks to whoever can help.

I do not have one open right now but I thought that they usually stopped on their own.  in any event a 1/2" recess from the end of the housing will give you more than enough room for the seal.

Check that again Rustyred. The ones I've done had a lip they butted up to. :)

The last one I did had no shoulder.  I pushed it in allowing room for the seal plus a little bit more.
