Mike'sHorseBarn 2,981 #51 Posted February 24, 2017 I vote 1276, but I don't think you can go wrong with either. Those are great looking horses! Mike

That's a good idea except I just got back from a show and did my "strategic garage parking" and have the Raider back in a corner kind of parked in under a large shelf covered up I was meaning how wide are the 1276 fronts? They look wider than 6 inches in the pics. You may have to buy a 3rd tractor for the hubcaps. Problem solved !
Sarge 3,462 #53 Posted February 25, 2017 I'd have to vote towards the Raider - and put a set of Firestone ags on the back of the 1276 with a set of the Vredesteins on the front to boot...can't beat that look with it's elegant hood design . I run ags on all 4 corners of the 1277 and lot of folks comment on it around here despite it's rust and general abused look - no other garden tractor could match it's beastly elegance .... JackC 617 #54 Posted February 25, 2017 Tractors look great without hubcaps but If I were to put them on one it would be the later year 1972 Raider 12. What year was that style hubcap available? I don't think they were available in 1966 but may have been by 1972. The 1276 would look good with the older style hubcaps like the following:
6wheeler 603 #55 Posted February 25, 2017 . I can't decide. Therefore? I think you should probably just go and buy another tractor to put them on. See how simple that was? And that folks? Is how I seem to end up with more tractors ...

I am going to put them on either: 1972 Raider 12 or my 1966 1276 So if this were your choice, WHICH tractor would you put them on? Let me know what you think. Yes. The only thing is, you need to get another set of hubcaps! Edited February 27, 2017 by TDF5G

I wish I could find a nice set like you have there. If you want to part with those, send me a PM. I finally had some time this week to install matching sneakers on the front of the 1276. The front never matched the rear and I just never got around to swapping until now. After that, I threw the hub caps on. JackC 617 #61 Posted March 6, 2017 Looks great with the all new shoes. The 8 inch caps look better on the back rather than the 12 inch. What paints were used for the sheet metal, wheels, and PTO engagement parts? Where did you get the seat? Are those new hydraulic hoses and new decals from Terry? Will it be a worker or parade / show horse?

Will it be a worker or parade / show horse? Painted Parts - All Rustoleum with a little work after spraying with a gun. The PTO engagement lever and the and the transmission lever are bare metal coated with Sharkhide Seat - the frame is an original I picked up at the Wheel Horse show in PA. The cover came from the same place from a different person. The frame needed rewelded and I used the padding from the seat that had been on it with a little trimming. Hydro lines came from Surplus Center Decals - Yep, Terry I worked it until I restored it. Now it's too much of a pain to clean it in detail so I only show it and run it in parades where it won't get trashed. That and running it around my yard/driveway/street just because I like to drive it Thanks! 5

What method did you use to get them on without scratches Zeek? Oh yeah and now get yourself some seat time to get those nubbies worn off!

Oh yeah and now get yourself some seat time to get those nubbies worn off! The rears . . . the NOS tag calls them 12", but when you measure the actual diameter, it's closer to 10". The picture is probably a little deceiving. I took off all the metal clips and used little pieces of rubber trim with rubber cement to keep them on the cap. I then carefully spread the tab just enough to make them snug. Most of them were pretty good as they were because the rubber is about as thick as the metal clips were. Nubbies . . .I'll have to bust out the shaver Edited March 8, 2017 by Zeek
Ken B 3,141 #65 Posted March 8, 2017 If you get a chance at the Big Show, do yourself a favor and stop by Zeek's tent to check out his tractors and his top notch work in person. You will have a hard time finding a nicer paint job anywhere at the show period. You would think a high end body shop did all the work... Nope, Rustoleum thru a gun and lots of attention to detail. Love the caps Zeek!

Since the original post I added a grader blade and found a pristine set of red-horse hubcaps (not pictured) I also have a sickle bar for the 552 beside it (courtesy of @AMC RULES) that I have to restore. 4
