Rustyred 63 #1 Posted February 10, 2017 Hi guys, My transmission is cleaned up and ready for assembly! The gasket of course will be new. I have put out the question of whether my gear damage warrants a replacement in another thread. Two questions: 1. Are there any parts to a transmission that should be replaced every time it is taken apart? This thing is from 1979 - probably never taken apart before. 2. One axle needle bearing had fallen apart and I will replace it. The other one is fine. Would you replace it anyway? Or was the other just faulty? Thanks again for the advice! pfrederi 17,902 #2 Posted February 10, 2017 For about $6.00 (my bearing guys price not Toro they are common bearings) I would replace the other needle bearing Needle bearing failure is not a good thing. This is what happens when an axle needle bearing fails All the seals , Input, Brake and axles should be replaced again they are readily available from bearing houses and cheap.
Rustyred 63 #3 Posted February 12, 2017 I appreciate the response - the picture was helpful and I can say I got lucky - the bearing was shot and the axle was not yet damaged.
