Ashton1118 20 #1 Posted February 6, 2017 I bought this wheel horse 704 for $250. I have plans to restore it back to original the closest I can. Was it a good buy and what would it be worth after I get done restoring it?

Shynon 7,474 #3 Posted February 6, 2017 704 would be a pullstart k161, looks like it has a k181 electric start on it. Also incorrect steering wheel, Looks like a good buy and
Ashton1118 20 #4 Posted February 6, 2017 Thanks I'll keep that in mind. This ones my second. I love wheelhorses but don't know everything there is to know about them.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,687 #5 Posted February 6, 2017 Impossible to give a restored value without seeing the finished product. Everyone's definition of restored is different. You do have the wrong motor, wrong steering wheel and the hood is cut. Looks like you have an extra idler pulley for some reason. A full honest to goodness nuts and bolts restore generally costs more that what you can sell them for in my opinion. Mike.....

Ashton1118 20 #8 Posted February 6, 2017 It has a k161 with the electric start I'm not sure how to get it back to pull start and thank you guys for the warm welcome.
AMC RULES 37,144 #9 Posted February 6, 2017 Easy enough to do... pull the flywheel screen... install a starter cup, and recoil/pull starter in it's place.
Ashton1118 20 #10 Posted February 6, 2017 I haven't see very many of these 704's around are they one of the more rare ones?
AMC RULES 37,144 #11 Posted February 6, 2017 Possibly... simply because it was the 7 series "base" model tractor.

Also change the flywheel (has ring gear on it) and shroud to accept the pull start
Ashton1118 20 #13 Posted February 6, 2017 How many of the wheelhorses actually came with crome wheel covers or was it just an add on
squonk 41,792 #14 Posted February 6, 2017 Seat is wrong too. Should be square.

jellyghost 378 #16 Posted February 6, 2017 Because of some of the missing pieces and cuts, maybe you shouldn't restore it. You could mod it into something interesting.

Molon_Labe 731 #19 Posted February 6, 2017 Looks like a nice start for a custom project. There is no way I could ever break even on any of my restoral projects. Here's one I went through a few years ago that turned into a real money pit once everything was said and done but in the end it was worth it to me. The 704 is one of my favorite tractors for just puttin' around on. You'll love yours.

There are HUGE variables involved including location, condition, model etc. Early 60s models have a higher degree of collector value recently. If you have a particular tractor in mind please feel free to post a thread and we'll do our best to help you out with an accurate amount.
