MarkK 16 #1 Posted February 5, 2017 For those who've rebuilt mower deck spindles, in particular the greaseable style, was the spindle shaft worn enough to need replacement? The bearings and seals for my C-81's deck are available at a reasonable cost. The spindle shaft (107998) lists for nearly $120. While my spindle assemblies aren't loose or noisy, some day they'll need attention. Looking to draw upon your experience whether the spindle shaft is often replaced when rebuilding the spindle assembly.

daveoman1966 3,762 #3 Posted February 6, 2017 I have a NOS spindle shaft, but I don't know if it is the part# 107998 that you specify. The one I have is : 6" long, bottom end is threaded 3/4" dia, the top thread is smaller at 5/8" dia, and the grease zerk is on the top. I think this is for a 36" deck as the shafts for 42 and 48" decks are a bit longer....
MarkK 16 #4 Posted February 9, 2017 Thanks for the comments. If most spindle rebuilds included replacing the shaft, then I'd look into duplicating one on the lathe during the winter.
can whlvr 993 #5 Posted February 9, 2017 I had one go bad and it was cheaper to purchase a used complete spindle here on red square from one of our vendors
