Duramax7man7 506 #1 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) How Often should I flush the oil in this unit? Once a year? Edited February 3, 2017 by Mastiffman
KC9KAS 4,741 #2 Posted February 3, 2017 As long as the rubber shift boot is in good shape and no dirt or water gets into the tranny, I doubt you need to flush it at all. Again, as long as the axle seals do not leak, you won't have to add lube either, but do check the level of the lube.
953 nut 55,885 #3 Posted February 3, 2017 Your owner manual will tell you the same thing.
rmaynard 15,628 #4 Posted February 3, 2017 I have a 1977 B-100 8-speed. The transmission oil was changed when I bought it in 1993, and it has only been changed once since then. I've replaced the shifter boot several times. As an interesting side note, in all that time, I have never had a leaky seal.
Rob R 966 #5 Posted February 3, 2017 My take on this is simple once a year take a look at the color and fill level of the oil.... if black add to the fill and leave it alone, if gray or brown definitely drain flush and replace. What kills the seals is when the oil is contaminated with water (bad boot seal or condensation). THATS ALL THERE IS FOLKS.....
Duramax7man7 506 #6 Posted February 3, 2017 It didn't come with a manual. But I assume I can download one from the site... ? Awesome, thanks for all the tips fellas!
Racinbob 11,241 #7 Posted February 3, 2017 Yup. Just go to the manuals section. I didn't link to it because I don't know what tractor you have. You'll want the owners manual and there's a dandy service manual as well.

rmaynard 15,628 #10 Posted February 3, 2017 You know, I'm going to correct my previous statement on only one oil change since 1993. One winter, I left the tractor uncovered all winter. In the spring I noticed that the shifter boot was cracked. So, knowing that oil rises to the top and water settles to the bottom, and also knowing that the tractor had not been started or moved all winter, I removed the drain plug and drained about a 1/2 pint of water from the bottom of the transmission. It wasn't until several years later that I drained, flushed, and refilled it with new.
pfrederi 17,902 #11 Posted February 3, 2017 My L107 gets new rearend oil every 10-15 years...needed or not. Still works great...and I am still using 40wt motor oil as originally specified.

Good idea changing it then. 5 minutes ago, pfrederi said: My L107 gets new rearend oil every 10-15 years...needed or not. Okay, question answered with that manual as there are different T ratings for Trans oil... ha ha.
Duramax7man7 506 #13 Posted February 3, 2017 And my 520h Manual! Nice! 41-20OE01... Is this correct? Onan & Toro power plus (20.0 -12.5hp, 400, 500, 600, 700- series) Above 80*F = SAE 50w Above 60*F = SAE 40w 32*F - 100*F =SAE 30w Below 32*F = 20w-30, SAE 10w, 5w-30 Below 20*F = 5W-
dcrage 628 #14 Posted February 3, 2017 Just to add to the earlier posts: My 310-8 was purchased new in 1991 and I have yet to change or add any fluids to the rear end. I do check the levels regularly.
bmsgaffer 2,045 #15 Posted February 3, 2017 Just to add to this, my C-105 has been stored inside since 1988, and has not had an oil change (or a new drive belt) since then (to be fair, its been out of service since 2010 or so? and it will get a full on flush and change when I get back to it)
