No Snow, So ...

Last year I never setup my 523Dxi with it's snowthrower and cab because of the lack of snow - and then on January 23, 2016 we were socked in for five days with close to 40" of snow from a blizzard. I never used that tractor! With this turning into another "Winter That Wasn't," I have been refining the installation of my "new/used" cab for the 518xi and the lighting controls compared to the cab on the 523Dxi. Two years ago on my 523Dxi, I had put 27W LED floods on the front and an 18W LED flood on the rear. I had also  motorized the chute deflector on the single stage snowthrower.  The wiper was manual.

 

This year I have used the cab roof from the 523Dxi's cab for the 518xi. The reason is I have a motorized wiper and it is just easier to start fresh with the other roof. It will again get 27W floods on the front and an 18W flood on the rear. It will also receive copies of the new items I have mounted on the 518xi. The 518xi has received roof mounted taillights, and an amber LED lightbar. The tailights give me piece of mind due to the 518xi not having tailights like the other four 5xi models. Maybe this summer I will pull the seat pan off and finally add them!

 

There is a master fuse at the battery and individual fuses inside the control box. All wire to wire connections were soldered and heat shrunk. I also used a trailer junction box, mounted at the roof, to make removal at the end of the season easier. For the wiring I used 12 gauge stranded to the control box. There is a Weatherpack connector at the firewall. I used 14 gauge stranded to the lights with one 12 gauge ground to the junction box to lessen the number of wires in the loom to the roof. This way all the wiring and boxes can be stored with the roof piece of the cab. Space was left on the face of the box for motion controls of the snowthrower and snow blade. My plan is to have common controls and connections for the attachments to each tractor. That way I can swap duties between tractors.

Looking good! I just got a hold of a snowblower for the xi for an awesome deal. Unfortunately because of that it will never snow here, but I keep holding out hope!

The more work you do to that thing, the less snow you will get. It's a proven fact! 

 

We were supposed to get a foot this past week. Last weekend I moved the blower tractor to the front of the line. I don't think we got even an inch!

I can attest to that Mike, barely had to sweep the walk out to the barn. What snow I got never stuck to the laneway, the ground was so warm.  Should have been a meteorologist.

We usually don't have any snow until around Christmas, so of course we got pounded three weeks early.

Tractor still in the back barn with the mower deck on & the snowblower buried/blocked in by summer "accumulation".

After that three week battle here comes three weeks of rain...

Decided to get a plow for when everything turns to slop & the snowblower becomes useless.

Found a plow & had to order a new attaching bracket for it, it arrived the day the last of the snow had melted.

Now that I'm ready I totally agree, our tractors make great scarecrows for snow!!!

We should start a "DRIVE YOUR NEIGHBORS CRAZY CLUB"  We could all go out at a preset time at night and dive our cabbed horses around with all the LED roof lights and flashing warning beacons  turned on...

been tuff here last two years no snow to plow put the chains/weights and blade on my 857 then take them back off in the spring. global warming??? always had snow here to plow

this is true we got 8 plow tractors and only had 3 inches of snow lol

This isn't no joke - I did all that work on the D-180 and used it once , no snow to mess with since and we've even been up into the high 50's lately with the grass turning green again . Colder the last week or so and maybe a dusting later this week - nothing forecasted for quite awhile yet . I suspect we'll get one final late season shot or just get dumped on enough to turn everything into a swamp as usual - at least I'm ready if nothing else . Bet if I found a blower and cab for the old warrior it would never snow here again - unless it was broke down , of course....
