stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #1 Posted January 15, 2009 ok... by the toipic you guys may already know what happened... Talked to the guy over phone, saw pics and asked all the questions. Agreed on price, asked the guy to charge battery, make sure everything works as he is telling me PRIOR to me making the 2hour trip to pick up. Called me to confirm it is running etc... Drove up to Springfield to find that the tractor is in rough shape, carb was leaking gas (possible stuck float) but it was running... rich. I went to let out the clutch in first gear and it did not move.. it bogged down like brake was on but it was not. Today it was about 15 degrees so it may have water in the brakes and/or water in the rear end that is frozen. So.... you can't get a winner every time. Anyone in the greater CT area have an Economy tractor that they want to sell or trade?? Let me know.. Thanks-Steve Bo
bell 11 #2 Posted January 15, 2009 Well, it sounds like not all is lost... a carb cleaning and fluid change is always a first on any tractor I buy... Thaw her out and change the lube. I bet she's full of water and frozen... Post some pics so we can see what you're working with...
Jim_M 178 #3 Posted January 15, 2009 It's very common for the bull gear housings on an Economy to get water in them. Chances are they were half full of water and frozen solid. Thaw, drain, flush and refill them and they're good to go.
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #4 Posted January 15, 2009 that is what i figured however i was willing to pay good money and the seller should have covered that. i made a reasonable offer and if he accepted, i would have taken the chance on just changing the fluid. thanks- steve

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #7 Posted January 15, 2009 Jeff, Saw that one. I don't know the model I like but the one I looked at was a 1969 with 14hp which I liked. This one is the first that I have seen with the short front nose like that... not my taste- Thanks for responding...
