T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #1 Posted January 1, 2017 I have these John Deere weights that were originally for the 108, 111, 112L and 116 John Deere lawn tractors. They were bolted to the back hitch plate on those lawn tractors. They're 42 lbs each. I bought them as they can also be used as front slab weights for the JD round fender tractors as they have the same bolt pattern. I ended up mounting them on the front of my John Deere GX345 when I take it to a plow day. Anyways, I decided they would be good for front weights of a Wheel Horse. So I bought a scrap front tach-a-matic hitch off of ebay and welded a couple of unistruts that I had laying around and mounted it on the front of my 416-8. I have to see if the hitch can hold the 84 lbs, but I think it will. Excuse the green paint, I haven't had time to repaint the weights, and they're probably get painted black anyways to be more universal as they still will be mounted from time to time on the GX. 9 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Sarge 3,463 #10 Posted January 3, 2017 I'd seriously consider having that axle machined out and either bronze or brass bushings installed - that's a lot of weight thrust against those spindles and will wear them out quicker while damaging the bores in the cast iron axle . WVHillbilly520H 10,373 #11 Posted January 3, 2017 @Sarge, I keep the king pins on the spindles and the center pivot on the axle greased every to every other time I mow, plus the snow blowers hanging in the attach-a-matic is quite a bit of weight too when in transport mode, in 18+ years I've owned my bought new 520 haven't noticed any severe/unusual wear on my axle/spindles, I can't comment on the smaller (400 series down) non swept forward commercial axles just my 520H experience,Jeff. Sarge 3,463 #12 Posted January 4, 2017 You'd almost have to pull the clips and drop the spindles out to see any wear - once it starts it doesn't take long to tear up the spindles and start wearing out the axle bore as well . I believe the 520's use a thrust roller bearing on the bottom of the spindle like the D series to help with steering effort and stop the friction issue . Those bearings really should be checked once a year for wear and replace as needed since they support the front end weight on the spindles . Best thing to do when greasing the front end is to support the tractor by the frame and take the weight off the front axle pin/steering spindles - that way they can get properly lubricated at the load points . Always better than posting the same questions over and over! Found my weights on Ebay years back. About 120lbs. Made a bracket to fit in the mule drive so they can move as needed- though they rarely leave the Bronco... The two outer weights come off for some adjustability.
