Transmission and hydraulics not working

Recommended Posts

Sledhead

Hi guys. New to the forum here. I have a problem with my 520h. I was snowblowing my driveway out and got stuck and had to tow it out. It woked fine for the next while then it suddenly wouldn't move and the hydraulics wouldn't work. Replaced the pump with another used one and everything worked for about 30 seconds then everything quite working again. Thought we heard something inside the pump snap. Any thoughts? Really looking for help here.

Sorry to hear you have that kind of failure in the middle of a snow storm.        I know the Sundstrands can be damaged if they are towed with the tow valve closed.  I am not sure how damaging it is to tow an Eaton 1100 as they don't have the tow valve.      I am sure others will offer advice.

AMC RULES

  From the 520's manual...

Hand push tractor only. Do not tow. Towing

can cause severe damage to hydrostatic transmission.

There is a warning sticker on the tractor as well.

On an Eaton, the pump and hyd motor is all one unit. He says he replaced it after towing it. Sounds more like something happened to the differential or the 2nd pump already had a problem.

If two hydro units acted up i am suspicious of the transaxle..broken differential bolts perhaps/??

Jack it up and try turning the back wheels.  one at  a time then both the same direction at the same time.  Any strange noises?

One at a time the other wheel should turn the opposite direction.

Two at a time you may hear a clicking from the hydro unit

Thanks guys for the help. I'm thinking something broke in the transaxle as well. Going to take it apart tomorrow to see what's happening with it.
