520H TRANSMISSION REMOVAL HELP

Recommended Posts

Terry T

I have a locked up transmission on my 520H that I usually use with a snowblower attached.

9" of snow yesterday and no go on the 520H.

Need details/pitfalls on R&R the hydro.

I have a used trans that supposedly works.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You may have broken the bolts that hold the differential carrier together or one has lost it's nut and backed out. Don't force it as they can break the bottom out of the case.

You might be able to remove the right 1/2 of the case with the assembly still in the tractor. Hopefully others will chime in on that possibility 'cause I have no experience with them.

Some new grade 8 bolts, nuts and flat washers may have you back in business if you are lucky. Pay attention to which side of the diff the nuts are on.

I just got thru swapping out my eaton 700 with a eaton 1100 - not much of a trick if it is a complete unit - give some details on what you have and what you want to do..

You can remove the LEFT side of the case and the transmission stays mounted to the tractor.  I have mine apart right now to replace a cracked left side.  The most miserable part of the job is the oil lines running across the left side, so they need to be moved.  If you have a bad pump, that pulls out from the right, and again, more oil lines to deal with.

My intent is to totally remove the trans and replace with  a working spare.

Is the spare complete with gear case and axles and hubs?
