peigt14 19 #1 Posted December 12, 2016 Looking at a loader for my GT14, it is a Johnson loader that was originally installed on a bolens 1476 large frame, wondering if anyone has any experience with trying to make on of these loaders work on a wheelhorse or if there was a specific model that they made for a GT14, I know a lot of these companies tended to have a base product and then modified hardware kits for each tractor, the bolens is within a year or two of the GT14. Is it something that once you figured out getting it retro fitted to be attached can just tie into the hydraulics on the tractor? I know I have seen units on here that seem to have a pump run from the PTO clutch? any info would be appreciated, don't want to bite off more then I can chew here.
wallfish 16,985 #2 Posted December 12, 2016 Not completely familiar with a Johnson loader but they're all still basically the same. You will need to fab a sub-frame to fit YOUR tractor or fab/modify the existing frame to fit your tractor. Do not use the trans hydraulics, run it with an independent pump.
953 nut 55,091 #3 Posted December 12, 2016 My GT-14 has a Johnson Workhorse loader on it, was there when I bought it. If you need photos or measurements on the sub-frame I could do that in a couple of days; I'm booked up till Thursday. Only picture I have now is from behind.

peigt14 19 #6 Posted December 15, 2016 So as far as the hydraulics go it is basically a pump run off the tractor pto, a reservoir for fluid and tying all into lines on loader??
wallfish 16,985 #7 Posted December 15, 2016 Yup, the reservoir is already built into the upright post of the loader. They're pretty much a self contained unit.
peigt14 19 #8 Posted December 15, 2016 ok, talked with seller and the unit does come with the pump that was used on the bolens, I am assuming it would just be a matter of re-mounting the pump to a good location on my tractor and getting a proper sized belt.

Right on that part, but as wallfish said you will still need to fit the base frame under your tractor or fab. a new one...
953 nut 55,091 #10 Posted December 16, 2016 Grabbed a few pictures of the mounting of my Johnson FEL, It has a two piece sub-frame and the pump mount is built into the rear cross-member.
peigt14 19 #11 Posted December 17, 2016 thanks, actually heading to pick the loader up on Sunday morning, hoping to get something set up for a sub-frame over the winter and get the loader mounted in the spring, I am thinking these will help along the way. thanks for all the great help and advice, I will try to post some pics when I get everything started.
OhioGT14 0 #12 Posted June 18, 2019 953 nut. Do you know if your fel subframe is a factory original? I only ask because I too have a GT 14 with a fel that has a different subframe. I assume mine is all original based on the paint all matching but am not sure.
