Wheel Weights

Winter is right around the corner and I am having trouble finding wheel weights for my new 314-8 (at least without paying $80+ for shipping).

 

Does anyone use non-wheel horse brand wheel weights?

Is the wheel weight bolt pattern for 12" wheels universal? I have seen some 2 bolt weights and some 4 bolt weights.

Has anyone successfully modified non-wheel horse brand wheel weights?

 

Has anyone fabricated their own wheel weights?

Do you have a sketch or dimensions?

Yes you can use Sears or International Harvester (IH) weights and they will work just fine.... Note had to drill the rims to make them work on the GT14

   The 12" wheel weights are universal as long as the rims have the standard four holes for them. I know a guy years back made his own by lining the rim with plastic wrap and placing a coffee can in the center to enable him to get at the lug bolts. ran bolts through the four bolt holes and filled the rim with concrete.

I made a set using a 90lb bag of sackrete and 4 pieces of 1/2" all thread using a 5 gallon bucket for a mold.   There is an old post on here describing the process if you are interested.

I used the rims as molds and filled them with lead tire weights and mortar mix.

You can find concrete filled plastic ones every day on CL.  Lots of Craftsman ones.  Two bolt ones are for smaller rims (less than 12 inch rims).  Cast iron weights are harder to come by and command a premium price.   Buying just before winter drives up the price as well.  I bought two nice sets of cast iron 50 pound WH weights (the newer style).  One set cost me $40 the other $50.  You have to be patient and buy off season (like the summer!)
