FatJackDurham 318 #1 Posted December 2, 2016 I have read a number of posts on the subject, and I guess I still want some advice. My 1972 GT-14 didn't come with a mower deck. It has a snow plow blade the hitches to the rear axle quick hitch. There is some slots protruding below the frame, one bend at a slight outward angle, but this is clearly not a tach-o-matic hitch, and there is no front tach-o-matic for a mule drive pulley system. I have seen photos of GT-14s with mower decks attached and It looks like there should be some additional pulleys and hitch hardware on the tractor to support the belt going down from the PTO to the deck. My question is, since I don't have the deck or the pulleys or hardware for the original quick-hitch arrangement (as described in the brochure) should I just go for buying a tach-o-matic system for the tractor? DO the mowing decks support ONLY one or the other? Which will be harder/easier to find the parts for? The orginal deck and pulleys for a quick hitch, or one of the tach-o-matic decks and all of the required tach-o-matic items? My primary need for this tractor is to mow. What are all of your good advices? I don't have pictures available yet, that will come after I finish tidying up the electrical system.
Aldon 4,826 #2 Posted December 2, 2016 The decision would be up to you as to which way to go. The older parts are getting more rare. deck etc. And depending on the era of deck, spindles and pulleys. The original style mule set up and mounting system for me was a PITA. The newer system will work. When you mount he front bracket you need to mount it a bit off center to give you additional clearance on your right front tire. So it will not look symmetrical from the front. If you choose to go this route as I did, you may want to implement the gas tank modification as it allows for tighter routing of the fuel line. The Mower drive belt otherwise would wear into the fuel line. I have a couple threads on the forum which cover the tank mod as well as the addition of the new style attach-a-matic system. I really like the ease with which I can drop or install the deck now. I am in Corinth NY. I saw you were in VT and thought it might be close but it looks like it might be 3 plus hour drive for you one way. Regardless, if you want to drive over and see it first hand your welcome to do so. Just send me a PM should you want to take me up on that,
