meadowfield 2,616 #28 Posted March 7, 2017 bit of work on the propshaft - a steering column shaft that's telescopic and just about the right scale (mower PTO shafts are rare here in the UK) I've turned the clamp off and added a flange.
HorseHead1089 100 #29 Posted March 7, 2017 I enjoy all of your work, it's excellent! Currently making more finalized drawings of what I hope to be an awesome custom design. Hopfully I will be able experiment with my design my first year of college that has a plentiful amount of machining and fab equipment!

Sparky-(Admin) 21,547 #31 Posted March 8, 2017 That little Peerless gear box you posted a pic of a few weeks back doesn't strike me as being very rugged.....might be a weak point. Maybe? Mike.....

Maybe? Mike..... agree, however the same gears/construction are in C4's front axle and I've not broken it yet after a few years of abuse... I think for the purpose I need it for, it might be adequate - if it breaks in early testing then it will be back to the drawing board!!!
meadowfield 2,616 #33 Posted March 12, 2017 (edited) Finished the adapter and propshaft flanges today. Prop drive works well... Edited March 12, 2017 by meadowfield
meadowfield 2,616 #34 Posted March 19, 2017 (edited) Balanced a few more parts on the bench. Need to get the drop box designed next. I've picked up an earlier 3 speed transmission and the brake shaft runs the opposite way and is 3 times slower. Might have to look for a later one. meadowfield 2,616 #35 Posted May 23, 2017 slow progress, managed to make the other end of the propshaft in an amongst all the other jobs! deliberating over whether to do the axle cradle and pivot next or start on choosing the rear end gearbox. The peerless 2300 is tempting, but I think reverse is broken I've enough gearboxes in pieces, so don't really need another!!!!
19richie66 17,531 #36 Posted May 23, 2017 Simply in awe of it all. This will be another masterpiece
meadowfield 2,616 #37 Posted September 5, 2017 slow progress, due to Ewans RJ rebuild and other jobs. I acquired another peerless 2300 tranny which seemed ok, but split just in case... found lots of metal, a seized brake shaft bearing, two mangled seals and half a shim! I guess thats where all the metal came from - odd thing is, there wasn't a shim missing!!!! So a PO obviously had it rebuilt badly. In pulling the hubs off, I noticed JMC in the castings, so I can now conclude it rear end is from a Jacobsen. Just one more seal to replace, then it's on with the hub adapters and transfer box
meadowfield 2,616 #38 Posted September 28, 2017 Short update, transfer box almost in situ - a bit of tidying up to do.
meadowfield 2,616 #39 Posted October 3, 2017 (edited) Back to the front axle, need to get a mount done before starting the chassis. a small piece of ply made the template and gave me a centre point for the pivot. Two pieces of steel tube were repurposed for the mount. a quick zap with the welder - that 1" hole was a pain to drill and how the cradle sites with a cat 3 pin for the pivot. Duramax7man7 506 #40 Posted November 6, 2017 Well son of a gun. Just found this thread and this right Angle gear box is the idea I had. Got one coming this week. I have a tractor already in mind for the upgrade though. It will be getting a frame upgrade though to start the process. It will need it. Nice work so far.
