Racinbob 11,247 #3 Posted November 27, 2016 The seal is a 1257 which is now 83-2840. Availability seems to be hit and miss. No need to open it up to change it but you'll want to make sure there's no up/down, forward/back play at the bushing. If there is you'll need to replace the bushing or you'll just destroy the new seal. Replacing that will require opening it up
russellmc301 600 #4 Posted November 27, 2016 so how would you change it?
Racinbob 11,247 #5 Posted November 27, 2016 Simply remove the hub and key. The seal goes around the outside of the axle. Just tap it off. Again, make sure there's no play at the bushing. Before sliding a new seal back on make sure there are no burrs on the axle that will damage the new seal and I like to put a light coat of oil on it. That picture obviously has the axle removed. You don't have to do that.
