953 nut 54,343 #2 Posted November 19, 2016 Most of us use International Harvester Red, but other shades are good too.
nigel 150 #3 Posted November 19, 2016 I've always used international haverster red before but it's very bright, the above pict I think is member AMC horse it's a lot darker and I think it's nearer the original colour and I really like it , now international red is darker than harvest red and I wondered if it was that
AMC RULES 37,102 #4 Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) A bit of the original paint still survives on this '60 model 400 Nigel... ...seems to me, the closest match would be some IH(International Harvester) type of red. nigel 150 #5 Posted November 19, 2016 I still prefer the colour of the one in the Picts that I posted at the beginning of the thread as you can see it's definitely a darker red, but what one ? 🙄
AMC RULES 37,102 #6 Posted November 19, 2016 Rustolem Regal Red would be my best guess here.

nigel 150 #11 Posted November 22, 2016 Well thanks to Richard and Craig's help I've made some, the only problem was the plate I had was thicker and didn't want to bend even in the press so I ended up cutting and shutting but I think they look ok He's a couple of Picts before I stripped it down It won't let me add any more photos !

953 nut 54,343 #13 Posted November 22, 2016 Great job. Good looking foot rests. 6 hours ago, nigel said: won't let me add any more photos ! Storage for photos on the web site costs quite a bit so a lot of us have become "Supporters" and one benefit is unlimited photo postings. The cost is very reasonable and well worth doing in light of the information we all gain by being here. Just click on the "Store" tab at the top of the home page and you will see how to go about becoming a Supporter.

Racinbob 10,857 #16 Posted November 23, 2016 I better let someone who knows painting answer that. I use rattle cans and let it be at that.

Well, your Suburban really looks good in the photo, especially for using rattle cans. You did a great job. I just wondered if you had sanded and buffed it.
Racinbob 10,857 #18 Posted November 23, 2016 Thanks. Preparation and not spraying in real humid weather seems to be the key for me. Down here that means no spraying in the summer.

I've had good luck with single stage urethane (in the past, never painted a , yet) but it's a lot of work and mess. Lots of clean up and over spray even with HVLP gun. nigel 150 #24 Posted December 6, 2016 What a bummer, I've spent a week taking the wheels back to bare metal the old school way , got them in primer ,started to paint the top coat today, they were looking good, came back half hour later 🙁 Holes every where, just like silicone had attacked them , pissed or what, so tomorrow ime off to the shot blasters and then they will be powder coated, gutted 🙄
