JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,497 #1 Posted November 15, 2016 ok, on one of my plow blades the PO must have damaged the blade control rod. He rigged up a coat hanger to do the job, I guess it worked. But talk about flimsy, I cant believe that wire never broke. The picture has the pen pointing to the blade control rod. Its a stout piece. Where can I get one? What have you guys used in its place to replace it? Any and all ideas considered, in my time here you fellas have come up with great ideas on things. Thanks, Glenn

Ed Kennell 38,021 #3 Posted November 15, 2016 Man, I can't believe a coat hanger would not bend when you are trying to push that blade to angle left. ACE hardware has 36" lengths of 3/8" round stock.

Ed Kennell 38,021 #5 Posted November 15, 2016 Let's give the PO the benefit of the doubt Glenn. I have used coat hangers many times to make templates to get the proper bends and lengths in levers and connecting rod linkages.
lynnmor 7,302 #6 Posted November 15, 2016 Maybe he ran the 3/8" rod up to the handle?
Racinbob 11,040 #7 Posted November 15, 2016 My rod is actually 1/2" but 3/8" would work. You could get a piece of rod, thread the ends and get a couple of threaded trunnions.

But this coat hanger is actually there, and on, attached to the plow. He was using it (the coat hanger) to do the job. Not just as a template for size. I will be darned, he said it worked to. DougC 2,641 #9 Posted November 15, 2016 Looking forward to the pictures. I bet somebody will start a thread called HOW TO MAKE THINGS OUT OF COAT HANGERS.
Walt 339 #10 Posted November 15, 2016 It may work if blade is off ground but if blade was down I believe friction from weight of blade on ground would be more than coat hanger could over come.

I have to agree, it's so flimsy looking, a couple coat hangers twisted together. I never used it, when I picked it up, threw it in the shed, and that's where it's been for a couple years. My gawd, just moving the smaller blade around, just loose , by itself, is heavy as can be. Thats the 42 inch for the C-175. I never used a blade yet, just the snowblowers. Let's just suffice to say it's nonsense. I was messing with the smaller blade for mounting on the C-175. And agree with all the comments made. There is no way it could have worked. No way. Let me know when you see they can make hair out of them. My salvation, then I can get rid of some ball caps. Glenn
DougC 2,641 #12 Posted November 15, 2016 We are both better off with ball caps. Just think how many holes would need to be drilled to insert the 1 inch long metal coat hanger stalks....
Ed Kennell 38,021 #13 Posted November 15, 2016 (edited) I considered a transplant when I lost my hair about one year after I married Mrs K. Then I saw this, and just bought more hats instead. Edited November 15, 2016 by Ed Kennell
