I like what you're thinking about reinstalling the shifter with a new dog point setscrew and jam nut. With no jam nut it would loosen up real fast. squonk 41,447 #27 Posted November 7, 2016 Not sure if it's possible but I would try to design a shorter shifter bent differently. To me with all those angles your fighting your self and putting a lot of stress on the shift forks. The shorter the shifter the better. It would cause more stress on the dog point set screw. Yes Craig. You will feel the detent balls dropping in place. stevasaurus 22,882 #31 Posted November 7, 2016 (edited) Craig, this is not a Big Daddy Roth shifter...you just need to have your hands in the right place on that shaft to get where you want to go. Remember, you need to stop to shift...you start out in the gear you want. There is no pressure on the shifter...you will just need to grab the shifter lower to move it in the pattern you want...understand?? It will work the way it is...it just looks different and you are going to have to help it. You could put 23 bends in a long screw driver and use it the same way...no pressure. The suction thing is one, that shifter coming at the pattern from a different angle is two, and three is somebody has messed up something that used to work. The first one needs to have the shift rails ground with a flat spot...all #5025s have that going on. Two and three have compounded the first issue and made a couple more. If you take some time and sit on it and shift it, you will see what I mean. Trying to shift it while you stand behind the seat trying to push or start it...just compounds what I am trying to say.
