clueless 3,012 #1 Posted October 30, 2016 Doing a trany swap this weekend on the '87 312. The new to me trans is off of a 2003 315-8, 8 pinion 1/1/8 axle with a little over 600 hr. It was drained before I got it but what little oil that did come out looked good, no mud. Just finished running it for about 20 minutes thru all the gears with a Qt of kerosene and a Qt of 90wt, drained it, stuff looks good. Should I do it again or or just fill it with oil and use it?
stevasaurus 22,882 #2 Posted October 30, 2016 If it came out clean...I'd go with it Chris. What is wrong with the old one??
clueless 3,012 #3 Posted October 30, 2016 Yea Steve, that's what I'm going to do, might drain and fill it again this time next year if it looks a little muddy, tractor does not get a lot of uses. The old one slowly developed some loud clunking in the front of the trans soon after I bought it from the original owner, he had just changed the oil when I got it. Its been about year and a half since you guy gave me your thoughts, and eventually decided I would have to tear into it, too many other projects so it went on the back burner. Got a good deal on the new one, thus the swap.
