BESTDOGEVER 218 #26 Posted November 8, 2016 Depending on how far up the cylinder it is scored you may be okay mark where the top of the piston is at bottom of the stroke before you pull it out you can then measure to the lower ring and see if the scoring is affecting anything
entropy 104 #27 Posted November 8, 2016 It scored at base of cylinder, I think it should be ok. I honed it and it is not nearly as pronounced but still there. Now the problem is finding pistons for it. Anyone here have pistons for a p218g part # 112-0163? Where did you get yours best? Onanparts does not have them and I have seen used on ebay.... BESTDOGEVER 218 #28 Posted November 8, 2016 The Cummins dealer here also has Onan parts try Cummins -bridgeway. com . I'm surprised Boomer hasn't chimed in on this. Try Boomers influence. com
entropy 104 #29 Posted November 14, 2016 Tear down in progress, hoping new(used)Pistons, rings, hone will do the trick.
woodchuckfarmer 333 #30 Posted November 14, 2016 Try www.gphope.com for after market piston assembly. Got mine there for the p220. Wayne
Kurt-NEPA 755 #31 Posted November 14, 2016 Wow, that piston is ugly. I guess you found the source of the oil burning. How does the cylinder look?
BESTDOGEVER 218 #32 Posted November 14, 2016 My thought exactly, how the cylinder didn't get trashed is a minor miracle
entropy 104 #33 Posted November 15, 2016 (edited) Right?! Cylinder wall had some grooves at base near crank and when I rotated crank and got piston to low spot of stroke it appears that the all the rings stay above the grooves. After honing the groves are much less pronounced but still there. I ended up pulling the other piston as well due to skirt being scratched up. I think I will probably have to replace that one as well, but the rings and top of the piston are not as damaged as the rear piston. What do you guys think? Kurt-NEPA 755 #34 Posted November 15, 2016 Wow those pistons are ugly. Have you measured your cylinders? If the cylinder are in spec, I think I would replace the pistons and rings and give it a try.
