MWR 321 #1 Posted October 17, 2016 I've not posted here much this summer, been really busy. But my GT-14 engine gave out back in May and I am just now getting around to rebuilding it. And I have question. The threads in the block for the exhaust are bad and this makes it difficult getting the muffler to stay where it needs to be. Does anyone here know if there is any way to rethread the block or any other fix? I think it is a 1 inch pipe thread.
pfrederi 17,969 #2 Posted October 17, 2016 You can get a 1" NPT tap and use that to put the threads in a bit farther. I have done it but used a shop vac whlle doing it and made sure exhaust valve was closed...then blew it with comressed air to make sure I got the chips If it just loosens up but isn't falling out try a lock nut like this (used on electrical conduit).
Racinbob 11,289 #3 Posted October 17, 2016 You could also use a 1" npt Helicoil if that doesn't work.
953 nut 56,137 #4 Posted October 17, 2016 Wondered where you had been. If you don't have a 1" pipe tap call a well pump installer, chances are they will chase the threads for you for a 6 pack.
