Rustyred 63 #1 Posted October 12, 2016 Hi guys, I just picked up at C-81 which I plan to fix up with my son. It's been years since I messed with engines so here's a couple questions. It seems the previous owner played with the electric a little. 1. The ignition does not appear to be original. It's a INDAK. Should this matter? (see picture) 2. There is no fuse between the Ammeter and Solenoid. The wiring diagram indicates there should be a 25 amp fuse. Does this matter? 3. The tail light wiring is gone. 4. The seat safety switch is gone. If I put one back in, where do I find the appropriate one? 5. According to the picture below, am I reading the serial number correctly to think this is a 1979 model? Thanks for all your help. It's appreciated.

(see picture)an after market switch shold be fine as long as it is for the battery ignition. 2. There is no fuse between the Ammeter and Solenoid. The wiring diagram indicates there should be a 25 amp fuse. Does this matter? Fuses are a must have, you can pick up fuse holders at any good auto parts store. 3. The tail light wiring is gone. Refer to your wiring diagram, easy fix. 4. The seat safety switch is gone. If I put one back in, where do I find the appropriate one? Toro dealer should stock this, if not go to "Partstree.com", again, be sure it is for Battery Ignition system presuming that is what you have,
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,921 #3 Posted October 12, 2016 Kohler made the engine in 1978 so the tractor could be a 1978 or 1979 model. 1978 C-81 model number 81-08K801 1979 C-81 models 91-08K801 or 91-08K802 These are the only two years for the C-81. No ID plate on the left side below the battery tray? Garry
Rustyred 63 #4 Posted October 14, 2016 Thanks Richard for the input on the wiring questions. Thanks Gary for pointing out the ID number location. I found it. 91-08K801-02535 8166 (I posted a picture as well) According to your numbers it's a 1979. Thanks.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,921 #5 Posted October 14, 2016 Added your numbers to the list If you search the files using the 8166 you will see they were also building 1978 C-121 Auto's at the same time. Interesting. Garry
doc724 925 #6 Posted October 14, 2016 You can buy the seat safety switch through Amazon. It is Eaton 8411K11 or 8411K12. Difference is only the termination, spade terminals v. screw terminals. I think i paid $8.33 for the one I bought recently
