dkg520 510 #1 Posted October 12, 2016 I started my 1960 Suburban Transmission dismantle and found the case to be completely broken across the bottom and several of the bolt tabs to be broken off. Obviously I was very disappointed beacause for now my project has come to a stop. The good news is that the gears and bearings are all in excellent shape for a rebuild if I can locate a transmission case. So if any member has or can help me locate a transmission case it would be much appreciated. Thank you
Racinbob 11,249 #2 Posted October 12, 2016 Replied to your PM on the case Dan. Make sure you inspect the inner teeth of the 3523 3rd/2nd gear as well as the input gear where it meshes. That's a weak spot and often worn.
dkg520 510 #3 Posted October 12, 2016 Thank you for the suggestion. All gears appear to be in good shape. The bearings look good also. Everything will get a good cleaning and inspection until I find a case.
ACman 7,621 #4 Posted October 12, 2016 Is there any way to fix these ears (brazing ears back on , heat up casting weld with nickel rod then machine , Silver solder) ? Just thinking out load !
Skeeters65 45 #5 Posted October 12, 2016 I saw pictures of his case and I don't think it is a good idea or possible to fix his case.
