Cadmandu 67 #1 Posted October 11, 2016 Hi all, I am going to remove my carb and clean it, do I need to ID it and and get a gasket kit first or any other advise would be appreciated. Thanks
rmaynard 15,393 #2 Posted October 11, 2016 Walbro or Carter both use the same kit. As far as advice, just search carburetor rebuilds on the forum and you will find everything you need to know and more.
oliver2-44 9,616 #3 Posted October 11, 2016 If there is a lot of slop in the hole where the throttle shaft goes through the top of the carb, it may be time to buy a Chinese knock off carb from ebay (about $39) Sadly you can spend more than on parts for a carb kit and a throttle shaft kit. .
BOB ELLISON 2,980 #4 Posted October 11, 2016 I rebuild all my carbs and clean good with sea foam or carb cleaner. Screw down the adjustment screw untill they bottom out and remember how many turns down .dont over tighten just snug and then remove them and spray or soak in sea foam .clean the top long screw so all the little holes are clean this one is hollow. Kits are less then $10.00 and the throttle shaft I just went to ace hardware and purchased the bushing for 80 cents each it takes 2 and works great. hillman bronze 58087. When you reassembled replace screws to same number of turns. And do what rmaynard says look on site for carb rebuild. It all depends on what your engine size is and what carb you have. You didn't say what engine you have or tractor year. I rebuild all my carbs and clean good with sea foam or carb cleaner. Tuneup 1,433 #5 Posted October 11, 2016 Ditto on the 58087 bushing. Ace has them, as they have everything They also had the bowl gasket as your needle and seat might just be OK. Good luck!
Cadmandu 67 #6 Posted October 11, 2016 Thanks so much, have a 198 312-8 with an adjustable jet Walbro. I will take it off Wed night. I have a can of Gunk carb cleaner with a basket or i can borrow a ultrasonic cleaner at work. I used that on my V4 carbs when I rebuilt them, I need a gasket that goes between the air cleaner plate and the front of the carb. Looks like someone cut out a rubber one about .040 thick, it is in bad shape around the three holes. Will I need a new gasket that goes between the carb and the intake? And make sure all of the mating surfaces are really clean. You can use a scraper or emery cloth, but don't let any little particles of the old gasket get inside the carb or intake. Cadmandu 67 #9 Posted October 15, 2016 All went well with the carb cleaning, but i found something very strange. My M12s is bolted to the frame on the left and both motor mount holes are hanging over the side of the frame by 1/2"

Cadmandu 67 #11 Posted October 16, 2016 Why would WH design a frame that the engine only has bolt down support on one side. If they did that on purpose I am not impressed. That is as stupid as the as the stuff that goes on today.
BOB ELLISON 2,980 #12 Posted October 16, 2016 Look under engine you will probably find 2 bolts under frame going up into block. My c160 has the same thing.
Cadmandu 67 #13 Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) Thanks for telling me that, I already designed a piece of angle iron to mount and bolt to the frame. Why are the holes in the frame in front, that might be a good place for added weight. Edited October 16, 2016 by Cadmandu
Cadmandu 67 #14 Posted October 29, 2016 I have a problem with my carb cleaning job. I finished welding the deck and installing two new idlers hooked the deck up and went for a ride. It was kinda hard to start and ran alittle flakey, wnen I turned it off it backfired really loud. Please advise.
