GT14 transmission rebuild kit

Recommended Posts

Herring Creek

So the guy I brought this 'ready to work' GT14 from advised me to get a transmission rebuild kit since the hydrostatic transmission is not working after 3 hours.

Is there a part number for this?

Also, the pulley for the tiller is completely wrung out and won't contact the shaft. Where can I get a replacement.

Thanks

There is no "rebuild kit".  there are several threads on here about overhauling Sundstrand Hydro (what you have on the GT14.  Depending on what is wrong some parts are easy to find some very hard.  Overhaul/repair is not an afternoon driveway project.  I would down load the sunstrand manual here and look at it to see what may be involved. It has a very good diagnostic chart

Was the hydro oil and filter changed recently...if not you could start with that but it maybe a waste of money if there is a real problem.

I've got the manual. It might as well be in Greek. Don't have a garage and don't have $400 plus shipping both ways to 'possibly' have it rebuilt. Going to try and make do the best I can. Ain't worth crap sitting where it is and it won't even crawl over a dirt clod now. Gets worse everyday.

Guy who sold it to me said he just did the fluid and said it never game him even a hint a trouble. Strange I use it for two hours and start having issues and by hour four it won't even move.

I think the guy who sold it to you is not being honest with you  especially the part about the the "rebuild kit".. and its history.   I have bought more than one Sunsdtrand hydro unit on ebay...all came from "good running tractors"  All had serious issues.    Bottom line never by a hydro tractor with out the opportunity to work it get it hot and see if it will spin its wheels pushed up against an immovable object.

Sorry

You should be able to sell off the attachments and recover some money.  If the engine runs well that is worth real money also

I've got it down to where I would take the transmission itself out. I am sitting on the back porch with the manual in my lap looking at it and feeling the motivation and hope slip away.

I think you are mostly likely correct. Parting it out is probably the way to go.

I'm going to do a little asking around locally to see if a shade tree lawnmower man wants to buy the whole thing for parts or maybe if they want to try and tackle a rebuild and what it would cost me.

The wife agrees I should just punt and buy something else. But she said I have to get rid of this one first; which is going to be a task itself.
