And frog legs, and catfish.

I had the pleasure of meeting one of our Texas members today, oliver2-44. Jim and I met at Black Hammock and enjoyed some great conversation as we ate their sampler platter. Black Hammock is on the shore of Lake Jesup which has the densest gator population of any lake in Florida. I guess we could call this a Wheel Horse meet and greet Florida style.

Jim, it was a true pleasure and if you're ever in the area again look me up.

Actually it's not really too bad Doug ,... kinda like a tough stringy barnyard buzzard! On the other hand gator sausage is real good!  Are those bloody marys I spy Dino??

Bob, I am envious...good food and great conversation.  Really cool...thanks for the pictures.  I've talked with Jim a few times on the phone..nice to see who I was talking with.

I had a great time visiting with Bob. As far as rustling horses I did ck all the Clist around here but Flordias about as spar do as Texas.  My wife had a work trip and some free air miles. So who am I to turn down some good times!

Wish I could have made it. Looks like a nice plate of food. This dang thing called work always gets in the way of fun. Oh well. We always drive over the 417 bridge at lake jesup and see how many gators we can spot out on the water. Not too many water skiers on that lake.

Jim emailed me the day before and invited me to join them if  was in the area. I told him even though I am in Florida it is still a 900 mile round trip for me. Not that 900 miles is too far to go for some good fried gator, frog legs, catfish and good conversation--especially when you are retired. But that afternoon while working on the PIA C-81 I stopped for lunch and had a RC Cola and a moon pie in honor of you guys. It's a Southern thing. Maybe next time. Chris

When an eleven footer chomps the front of your airboat, what else is there to do but gun it!

Watching the gator try to scramble onboard as he was being dragged under had me in stitches for some reason.

Those airboats are not made out of beer cans either. That is some bite pressure...

@Racinbob I was in Dallas Sunday night with my wife for a Camp Nurse conference.  She has a part time gig managing the Health Lodge and Nurses at a high-end Summer Camp. (Michael Dell and George Bush’s kids went there) We found a local seafood restaurant called Jimmy’s. Dallas borders swampy East Texas so they had a sampler plate with fresh Frog Legs and Gator on the menu. Reminded me of our Florida meet.  Good Times!  No pictures as it disappeared to fast.

I've eaten both, and would do so again anytime. 

 

Might not sound good, but it is. Frogs and gators might sound gross, but they are far cleaner than chicken raised by the thousands at once. Prepared properly, a plate of swamp poultry is a feast. 

 

Add shrimp and noodles and I'll drive 100 miles for it!

Catfish, yes. I love it. Frog legs, yes. Delicious.  I caught my share of big Bulls as a teen and fried them up. Mom couldn't see the sense, but I loved them.

Fancy French cooking? No. Egg wash and corn meal = good to go.

Haven't tried gator yet, but if I get down south, I will.

Gator tail needs to be marinated in milk to make it edible. It has no real flavor but much like rattle snake, deep fried and covered with hot sauce it ain't half bad.
