Techy motors are temperamental little boogers. Unless it's flat out wore out,  there's hope of reviving it. The Chinese carbs are a good alternative to trying to get an original working. The other issue is the ignition.

What size engine are you working with?

The best Tecumseh I ever had was used as an anchor on my old flat bottom river boat LOL Carburetors are one of the biggest problems on Tecumseh engines in my personal experience. As previously mentioned chinese carbs are a good option, but remember to check to see if the float is properly set in the new carbs. Check your spark too. In all honesty I have had some Tecumseh's that have run nice, but when they don't they are a huge pain to fix.

It's an H60. Put a brand new carb on it and now it floods like a $&#*+€!! Only cost me 35 bucks for the carb and Ignition parts, so that's all I've got in it. Really need to find an old Tecumseh expert in my area!

Sounds like your float might not be set right. I'm not sure of the proper measurement for it, but maybe someone will come along that knows.

Seeing that you just joined here, you may not be aware of some things available to you.  Go into the "Manual" section on the main page and look for the engines sub-section.  We have a few Tecumseh Manuals listed in there to look at.  When they run good, they run real good...they do not like sitting in the garage for 1 or 2 months...they like running at least once a week.  Don't junk it!!!  If you can't figure it out, we have plenty of members that will take that 6.0 off your hands.  :)

My L107 (1967) had an H60 for about 15 years. Put new rings in it once.  Finally replaced it in the late 80s with an HH70.  Only reason, my father was getting older and the H60 didn't have compression release and it was harder for him to pull it over. (He was too frugal for electric start)  The HH70 is still running just fine, she is used winter and summer stars quicker than any of my Kohlers and doesn't need any warm up to start working.   Download the manual.  Get an Autolite or NGK spark plug and a fuel filter. May need some tweeking to get the new carb adjusted.  Unless she sat out in the rain and had many many hours I doubt it is a points problem.

Pull the bowl off the carb, turn it upside down and set the float level with the carb body. Spray cleaner thru the fuel inlet seat

area and put it back together. If the bowl has the flat on one side on the bottom it goes toward the fuel inlet. I have set the

float on these like this for a very long time, very rarely has it not worked for me.

Techy's can be cantankerous critters but they are good engines. My old 654 with the original H60 (avatar) runs like a clock. I live right down the road from you in Noblesville and would be more than happy to help you get it running. Don't give up!

Wes, per our conversation today, here are some pics of the governor setup on an H60. The screw that the throttle arm contacts is the throttle stop which you set to limit the maximum rpm. Turned all the way in like in the pic allows for about ~ 3000 rpm max.

A HUGE thank you to Tony @Docwheelhorse for settin' me up here.

The generosity of some of our members never ceases to amaze me.

This here is another 1974 C160, but with the rare Tecumseh HH/OH160 OHV engine. Made one year only.

It's rough. Very much in need of a full disassembly and restoration.

When it came here it was missing one tie rod and the other was broken off one end.
Today I popped used tie rods on and Trina used her 867 to drag it from the drive to the shed.

      The engine wouldn't move.
Tin was near chock full of skeletal mouseseses and their house.
Cleaned that out and the engine spins freely now.

      So progress has been made.

It'll be a good long while before we get to this one but I just couldn't turn it down considering the rarity.

We're going to take apart the Tecumseh from my Honey's 657 so I can replace the crankshaft.
Any little tricks or tips I need to know about?

So I have been working on a 656 I picked up at the end of last year and I did my first ever motor rebuild by my self on it. However it seems that I have lots of play in the piston and some slop at TDC more then I should have. So to finish the year mowing I am thinking of doing a predator swap while I go over the engine again. I am sure several people have done this before and I have a spare mounting plat to make it work. I am wondering if anyone has any pictures of ones they have done for help along the way. I know I will need a adapter to use the factory pulley and I don't want to destroy any of the sheetmetal since it is in good shape. I will keep you posted as I go along and eventually when I get the hh60 back together correctly to re install.

from our awesome vendor Terry @Vinylguy.

I know where the balloon sticker goes and the oil sticker.

Where does the large "Solid State" one belong??

      Thanks!!
