Detector 72 #1 Posted September 18, 2016 (edited) A few day back I bought some Dupli-color semi-gloss black engine enamel with ceramic to touch up my motor, it dries pretty quickly and seems pretty durable. Well I had my hoodstand apart sanded and primed, I decided to lay on a few light coats in a small area for the heck of it and the stuff actually goes on good but the semi-gloss shade looks a bit too glossy, I'm not sure if engine paint is a good choice for these parts but it lays down well, I did a light scratch test with my nail about 24 hours later and it didn't effect it like Rustoleum products that takes weeks to dry depending on humidity. My black painted areas were so faded it's hard to tell if it was flat, satin, low or high gloss. Edited September 18, 2016 by Detector
oliver2-44 9,922 #2 Posted September 18, 2016 I don't have any experience with the dupli-color paints For what it's worth - I've read some of the "engine" paints don't have much in them to withstand the sun (since their typically under hood use) so that they fade quicker.
Don1977 604 #3 Posted September 18, 2016 I have used Dupi-color wheel paint It dries fast a couple of hours. They have it in satin black. I'm sure Wheel Horse didn't use gloss black on the hood stand.
Detector 72 #4 Posted September 18, 2016 I know the WH is old but the paint they used flakes off very easy even on the unexposed areas of the hood stand, actually used a razor blade to scrape it off and then water sanded it followed my etching primer. Don't appear they used any primer. Thanks for the tips
Wishin4a416 2,191 #5 Posted September 21, 2016 (edited) I used Rustoleum Satin Black on my 1142. Not perfect but real close. I read where people have trouble with it drying but I have never had that problem here above the Mason-Dixon.
