Michael Bullington 5 #1 Posted December 30, 2008 Can anyone tell me features of the Electro 12 tractor? What was Electro? thanks!! :hide:
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #2 Posted December 30, 2008 They are a Charger that came standard with an electric PTO clutch and hydraulic lift. The electric clutch is why they called them Electro.
Michael Bullington 5 #3 Posted December 30, 2008 TT can you explain the what an electric clutch does??? and what ran the hyro lift? a belt from the engine? thanks
Sparky-(Admin) 21,552 #4 Posted December 30, 2008 The Electro is a hydro tractor so thats where it gets its hydraulics from. The electric clutch was used instead of the manual PTO clutch that most Wheel Horses have to run mower decks, snow-blowers, etc...etc. Mike............ TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #5 Posted December 30, 2008 It's an electromagnetic clutch to run the belt-driven attachments. It took the place of the mechanical PTO clutch assembly and allowed engagement with the flip of a switch. (more luxury than necessity, I suppose) Most of the newer tractors all use the electric PTO clutches, which allow for easier integration of the safety interlock systems. The hydraulic lift was powered by the charge pump on the Sundstrand hydro unit.
Rollerman 290 #6 Posted December 30, 2008 Michael I'm not TT but I think I can handle these two questions. The Electro 12 was kind of a flagship model of it's year. Rather than haveing the normal tried & true mechanical PTO setup the E12 had an electric clutch activated by a toggle switch on the dash. So you would flip the switch to "kick in" the PTO and spin attachments like a mower deck, snow blower, tiller, etc, etc. The hydraulic lift was powered off the Sundstrand hydrostatic trans so no additional pump was needed like an HY-2/HY-3 setup. "Edit"...& TT beat me to it....... :hide:
Michael Bullington 5 #7 Posted December 30, 2008 wow this is cool tractor to own...anyone have this model :hide:
WheelHorse_of_course 99 #8 Posted December 30, 2008 Michael, there are quite a few of these around, but many have been converted back to manual PTO's. The electric PTO's are really expensive so when they failed may owner's elected to have the manual PTO installed since it was cheaper than replacing the electrical one. cheers
DMESS 24 #9 Posted December 30, 2008 I had this one on here for sale awhile back, but it's going to jusjeepn as soon as the weather/timing suits for me to go to Indiana. It's a 1968 and was converted to the manual pto as many were.
WH_Hobie 1 #10 Posted December 30, 2008 i used to have a 1968 electro. it was a very nice tractor, but i don't care much for hydros so it moved down the road to get replaced by a 1968 raider 9. The electro is very nice to operate and would be a nice tractor to have for a fact.
